The economic development and tourism subcommittees of the Commission on the Future of Southwest Virginia will hold a public meeting on economic-development issues in the region Monday at Radford University.
The session, in the Commonwealth Room of Heth Hall, begins at 10 a.m.
The commission is a strategic planning group founded by Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon. It is concerned with educational disparities, industrial recruitment, tourism enhancement, health care delivery, affordable housing, transportation and other issues common to the 9th Congressional District. The district covers 23 counties and cities from Cumberland Gap to the Roanoke Valley.
The commission's goals include fostering more regional cooperation, identifying and acting on opportunities that can best be realized regionally, and getting recommendations for legislation.
