Anthony Merchant rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown and Darren Graham threw for two scores as the Roanoke Rush defeated the Hampton Roads Sharks 24-7 in a National Minor League Football scrimmage at Christiansburg High School on Saturday night.
Merchant opened the scoring with a 47-yard run at 12:12 of the first quarter. Hampton Roads tied it on an 18-yard pass from Paul Snyder to Dexter Crosby at the 6:07 mark of the first. Roanoke answered on the next play as Graham hit Anthony Drakeford for a 55-yard score to put the Rush up 14-7.
Roanoke scored its final TD on a 20-yard pass from Graham to T.J. Jackson in the third quarter.
The Rush begins its regular season next Saturday at Victory Stadium against the Carolina Bobcats at 7 p.m.
