Bogsrud anniversary

Lee and Ted Bogsrud celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 21, 1996. The celebration was held at the Airport Sheraton and was hosted by their three daughters. The couple was married on July 4, 1946 in Chicago, Ill. She is the former Lillian Lang of New York City. Their children are Jill James of Roanoke, Diane Johnson of Hardy and Linda Green of Las Vegas, Nv. He is a member of the Kazim Temple and founder of Smith Mtn. Lake Antique Brass musical group. She volunteers at Booker T. Washington National Monument & Community Hospital.

Carr anniversary

Willie and Onnie Carr celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 27, 1996. They were married July 27, 1946. They have four children and nine grandchildren. Mr. Carr is retired from G.E. Mrs. Carr is the former Onnie Mae McFarland and is employed at South Roanoke Nursing Home-private duty.

Dickerson anniversary

Hilda and Vernon Dickerson celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 27, 1996. The celebration was held at North Roanoke Baptist Church and was hosted by their children. Guests also included several out of town friends and relatives. The couple was married July 3, 1946. Mrs. Dickerson is the former Hilda Ruth Webb of Hillsville, Va. The couple's children are Mrs. Alice Gillespie, Roanoke, Va., Mr. David Dickerson, Mineral, Va., Mrs. Laura Alstadt, Indianapolis, Ind., and Dr. Bruce Dickerson, Conyers, Ga. They have eight grandchildren. Mr. Dickerson is retired from General Electric and is a member of the Masons. Mrs. Dickerson is a homemaker.

Gregory anniversary

Jackson C. and Thelma H. Gregory celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 21, 1996. Mary, Danny and Bruce wish to congratulate Mom and Dad on their 50 years of marriage.

Lancaster anniversary

Everett and Lois Lancaster celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 27, 1996. The celebration was held at Boones Mill Church of the Brethren and was hosted by their family. The couple was married July 27, 1946, in Floyd, Va., where they have lived for 46 years. Mrs. Lancaster is the former Lois Marie Wood. The couple's children are Melvin Lancaster of Warrenton, Va., Kenneth Lancaster of Knoxville, Tenn., Debbie Harris of Roanoke, Va., and Linda Lancaster of Salem, Va. They have five grandchildren. Mr. Lancaster is retired from Thor, Inc.

Matherly anniversary

Charles and Kathryn Matherly will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, July 31, 1996. The couple was married July 31, 1971 at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church in Roanoke, Virginia. She is the former Kathryn Roope. They reside in Roanoke, Va. and have one son, Steven Charles Matherly, who now resides in Denver, Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Matherly are both employed by the United States Postal Service in Roanoke.

Miller anniversary

James A. and Mary H. Miller celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 13, 1996. The celebration was held at Veterans Bldg. in Christiansburg, hosted by family and friends. The couple was married July 6, 1946 in Grundy, Va. They have been residents of Christiansburg for 36 years. She's the former Mary Magdelene Hagy. Their children are Pat Stallard of Christiansburg, Sandra Lovern of Elliston, and Tim Miller of Dublin. They also have six grandchildren.

James is a WWII veteran and a VFW member. He retired from the Radford Arsenal and is currently a school bus driver in Montgomery County. Mary formerly worked at Virginia Tech. James is a Deacon and Mary is a Sunday school teacher at the Union Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church in Riner, where they have been members since 1961. They celebrated their 50th by renewing their wedding vows. The service was conducted by Rev. Buford D. Linkous, Pastor of the church. Their family wishes to congratulate them on 50 wonderful years together.

Musselman anniversary

Curtis and Roselee Musselman celebrated their 50th anniversary July 10, 1996. They were given a surprise dinner by her sisters, brother, nieces, and nephews. They also celebrated with a trip to Tennessee.

The couple was married July 10, 1946 at York, S.C. They are lifelong residents of Shawsville, Va.

Poff anniversary

Doris and Ray Poff celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 27, 1996. The celebration was held at Bethel Baptist Church, Salem, and was hosted by their children and grandchildren. The couple was married July 24, 1946, in Salem. They are lifelong residents of Salem. Mrs. Poff is the former Doris Marie Flinchum. The couple's children are Linda Willoughby, Ronnie Poff and Lisa Bain. They have three grandchildren, Ryan, Stephen and Kerri. Mr. Poff is retired from Veterans Administration Regional Office, Roanoke. Mrs. Poff is a homemaker. They belong to Bethel Baptist Church and American Legion Post #3.

Rhodes anniversary

On Sunday, July 14, Alan and Frances Rhodes were honored at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with a 50th anniversary celebration given by Sally and John Ahner, Harry and Becky Rhodes, and Clifton and Lynette Rhodes. Grandchildren, Beth, Sam, Amy, Peter, Alan and Anne assisted. Members of the wedding party who attended were Lewis Hypes, Lois Hypes, and Polly McFarlane of Roanoke; Janet Trexler of Richmond; Floe Miles of Newport;, Thomas Starling of Blacksburg; and Harold Oldroyd of Long Branch, N.J. Sally Ahner entertained with the couple's favorite love songs. Only July 6, the actual anniversary of the wedding in Blacksburg, the couple used their original room receipt to spend the night at Hotel Roanoke for the 1946 price of $6.00 .

Stull anniversary

Harold and Linda Stull of Salem, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 24. We would like them to know how much they are loved and appreciated and also how thankful we all are that Harold came into our lives.

``Surface'' Brothers Celebrate 50th Anniversaries

Rev. and Mrs. Lewis G. Surface (Elizabeth) were married June 15, 1946. His brothers and wives planned a gathering at their home with refreshments. Other relatives were also in attendance.

Paul and Elsie Surface celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 22, 1996 by renewing their vows at Lakeside Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Scott Walker, and hosted by their children. They were married on June 22, 1946. They have three daughters, three grandsons and one granddaughter.

Dawson E. and Kathern C. Surface of Salem, celebrated 50 years of marriage. They were married July 23, 1946. They have lived in Salem since their marriage. They have two sons, one daughter, three grandsons and two granddaughters.
