A former Salem resident was shot and killed Friday in Greenville, N.C., while trying to stop an armed robbery.
Richard Lee Graham, 29, who was living in Greenville, went to visit some friends about 11:30 p.m. and saw two men robbing them in their front yard, said Lt. Jimmy Evans of the Pitt County Sheriff's Department.
Graham approached the robbers and told them to leave his friends alone. One of the men pulled a gun and shot Graham once. He was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Evans said the sheriff's department has issued an arrest warrant but had not found the shooting suspect as of Monday afternoon.
The robbers took about $10, Evans said.
