A small fire at BBA Friction Inc. sent one employee to the hospital with first- and second-degree burns early Tuesday.
Dust particles caught fire quickly, but the flames were extinguished by employees shortly after, according Bob Griffin, human resources manager for the plant.
Griffin would not release the worker's name, but did say the employee was treated at Carilion Radford Community Hospital and released.
BBA Friction manufactures automobile brake pads and linings. Griffin said the fire was started by some sort of spark, but wasn't sure exactly what produced the spark.
"It was a freak is what it was," he said.
