Patrick Muldoon, the Giles County Republican challenging U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, for the 9th District seat in Congress, will paddle a canoe this weekend in a New River twist on the good old tradition of whirlwind campaign stops.
Republican community leaders are expected to join Muldoon for parts of the trip, which starts in Ivanhoe at noon Friday with a press conference and ends at the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. plant in Narrows at 3 p.m. Saturday. At each stop, Muldoon will make brief comments promoting his plan for economic development in the area.
To meet the waterborne campaign caravan, here is the schedule:
noon Friday, press conference and launch at Ivanhoe in Wythe County.
2 p.m., arrive in Austinville, press conference.
5 p.m., arrive at the Shot Tower Historical State Park at Interstate 77; open cookout.
8 a.m. Saturday, leave Claytor Dam.
10 a.m., arrive at Bisset Park, Radford. Doughnuts and juice available. Drive to Giles County to re-enter New River.
noon, leave Ripplemead.
3 p.m., arrive at Celanese plant.
