It's too bad Ernie Banks isn't playing for the Salem Avalanche, because this would be his kind of day.
Banks, the Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer, loved baseball so much that legend has it he would come to the ballpark and say, ``Let's play two.''
How about three?
That's what the Avalanche and Frederick Keys will attempt today. After being rained out Wednesday for the second consecutive night, the teams will turn the scheduled doubleheader into a tripleheader beginning today at 3:30.
The first game will pick up in the second inning, with Frederick leading 1-0. Upon the completion of that game, two seven-inning games will follow.
Matt Pool, Mike Vavrek and David Nied, the first-ever draft choice of the Colorado Rockies, will take the hill for the Avalanche (13-21), which has struggled in the second half of the Carolina League season and trails first-place Kinston by 4 1/2 games in the Southern Division.
