AGNOR, Emma Virginia, 86, died Monday, July 29, 1996 at the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born April 19, 1910 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Carrie Davis Agnor. She was a retired sales clerk for B.P. Knight's Store and a member of the First Brethrens Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Carter and Frances Childs, and a brother, Charles Agnor. She is survived by a sister, Virginia Sensabaugh of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 2, 1996 at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph ""Butch"" Grow officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lomax Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad.
ANGELL, John Bays, 46, of Wirtz, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996. He was preceded in death by his father, Hatcher Lee Angell; father-in-law, Fred Edenfield. Surviving are his wife, Debbie Angell; two stepsons, Peter Anthony Smith, Denver, Colo., Jason C. CAWLEY, Emaline G., 70, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1 996. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all. She was the current president of the Salem Chapter of NABA. She was also a past president of the Junior Women's Club and past chairperson of the Salem Republican Party. She was a member of West Salem Church of Christ. Mrs. Cawley was preceded in death by her father, James K. Grubb; mother, Hazel Grubb; husband, Edgar L. Crockett. She is survived by her husband, Paul E. Cawley; children, Freddie L. GIVENS, Jane Kenny, 64, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1996. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Kenny. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Michael Urbanski, Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Anita Givens, Manassas; mother, Pleasant H. Kenny, Roanoke; five grandchildren, William and Sarah Urbanski, Christopher, Matthew and Allison Givens. She graduated from Emory and Henry College and taught for several years in the Grayson County School System. She was a charter member of the New River Pioneer Chapter D.A.R., a former chairman of the Wythe Grayson Regional Library Board, and former council member for the Town of Independence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 1996, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, with Rev. F. Elizabeth Givens officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. HANCOCK, John Max, Sr., of Salem, died at his home on Wednesday, July 31, 1996. Mr. Hancock, a native of C raig County and a certified land surveyor, was former City Engineer of Salem from 1974 until his retirement in 1980. He served as Assistant Engineer of Salem from 1969 until 1974. Prior to 1969, he worked 20 years in the engineering department of Norfolk-Southern Railroad and two years as engineer for Craig-Botetourt Co-Op. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Salem. He was also a member of D.C. Shanks Royal Arch Chapter #31, Salem, and Mountain Lodge #140 A.F.&A.M., New Castle for 49 years, where he was Master from 1954-1955. In addition, he was First Worthy Patron for Mountain Chapter #168 O.E.S. from 1955-1957 and Worthy Patron twice from 1961-1962 and 1968-1969. Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Hancock, and a sister, Kathleen Barnett. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lucille Brogan Hancock; one son and daughter-in-law, John Max Hancock Jr. and Sandra A. Hancock, Vinton; four daughters and one son-in-law, Maxine Grubbs, Jane Hancock, Diane Hancock, all of Salem, Peggy and William (Billy) Carter, Terre Haute, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Sgt. Lewis M. Grubbs Jr. and wife, Joni, Anchorage, Alaska, Kristie Carter, Budapest, Hungary, Julie Carter, Terre Haute, Ind., Tiffany Hancock, John Hancock, Caroline Carter, all of Vinton, Joseph Grubbs; two grandchildren, Chris and Joseph Grubbs, Anchorage, Alaska; devoted friends, Paul and Dollie Braisted. LEMON, Mary Grace Trout, 88, of Roanoke and Richmond, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996. Mrs. Lemon attended the College of William & Mary and graduated from Pratt Institute. She was a member of the Mill Mountain Garden Club, the Junior League of Roanoke Valley, and the Roanoke Assembly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Henry and Lucy Boyd Sayre Trout, and her sister, Elizabeth Trout Lemon. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Marvin Lemon; her daughters, Lucy Boyd L. Edmunds, Richmond, Jane L. Marmion, Richmond, and Mary Marvin L. Walter, Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren, Hugh G.
