NEIGHBORHOODS UNITE TO COMBAT CRIME

The annual Night Out events - a "Going Away Party" for neighborhood crime and drugs - will be held in eight neighborhoods throughout Roanoke County on Tuesday.

The events are intended to remind neighborhood residents to stay alert to spot suspicious activities in an effort to eliminate crime.

In addition to the neighborhood events, the Roanoke County Police Department will conduct a children's photo identification program at Tanglewood Mall from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tom Kincaid, crime prevention officier for the county police, said children will be given an ID card with their photos. This program is being sponsored by the police, in conjunction with K92 Radio, Ritz Camera and Kodak.

One of the most elaborate neighborhood events will be in Mount Pleasant, which will have live entertainment, including the Franklin County Ramblers and gospel singer Joann Aliff, among others. It will begin at 7 p.m. on Ellington Street near Mount Pleasant Elementary School.
