The Giles County Red Cross recently rolled out the red carpet for its volunteers and supporting organizations and businesses. The volunteers received awards for their work with the county bloodmobile; CPR, health and safety programs; and emergency and disaster preparedness training. Together, the volunteers have more than 300 years of combined service to the county Red Cross chapter.
A special plaque went to Fay Roller, in honor of her husband, John Roller, who died in December and who was blood services chairman for 35 years. The plaque will be displayed in the Pearisburg Town Hall. Fay Roller received an award for her dedication, loyalty and support for the county chapter.
Volunteers who received awards included (in alphabetical order):
* Linda Boggs, director of social services for the county and coordinator of the Red Cross emergency shelter program.
* Teresa Clark, for 38 years service.
* Dot Craig, for six years service.
* Sally Grogan, volunteer coordinator, for 28 years service.
* Irene Hodge, for 40 years service.
* Dan Level, chairman of blood services.
* Bonnie Link, for 15 years service.
* Helen Losh, for 38 years service.
* Patty Ragsdale, hospital contact for disaster services and coordinator of hospital training in emergency services.
* Joann Richardson, for 42 years service.
* Mary Tebalt, disaster volunteer coordinator.
* Judy White, donor recruitment and publicity chairperson for the bloodmobile, for 28 years service.
Others receiving awards for bloodservice programs were:
* Giles Memorial Hospital for its support for the employee bloodmobile program at the hospital.
* Hoechst Celanese for its continued support.
* Oxford Industries for becoming a new corporate sponsor.
