The wife of congressional candidate George Landrith and a pet store worker have accused each other of assault in an incident at the store.
The incident occurred July 24 at the Pet Jungle in Albemarle County.
Laura Jennings Landrith, 34, obtained two misdemeanor warrants the same day accusing John DiNardi, 44, of assault and battery and cursing and abusing her.
DiNardi, who swore out an assault and battery warrant two days later against Landrith, said she slapped him across the face and smashed merchandise with a rock.
DiNardi said he struck Landrith three times, but he said it was after she slapped him, and the blows were intended to ``prevent her from striking me again.''
Landrith could not be reached, and DiNardi declined to discuss the incident.
DiNardi and Landrith are to appear in General District Court Aug. 14.
Landrith's husband is the Republican nominee for the 5th District seat in Congress.
