The state Charitable Gaming Commission, which began policing bingo games July 1, has shut down its first bingo operation for failing to comply with state regulations.
Charles T. Whitehead, secretary and treasurer for the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 172, was charged July 17 with aiding and abetting an illegal gambling operation. Whitehead was issued the summons at the York County group's weekly bingo game, held since 1978.
The group was cited for not obtaining a permit when the state began regulating the games a month ago. - Associated Press
