DUNBAR, Charles Edward (``Charlie'' Sr.), 51, of Glade Hill, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996 at his residence. He was recently retired from Yokahama Tire Company after 26 years service. He was a dearly loved father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Dunbar; children and spouses, Serena Kay Cole and Anthony W. Orrick, Rocky Mount, Charles Jr. and Missy Dunbar, Rocky Mount, Amy Y. and Jack Recupero, Richmond; two grandchildren, Matthew and Lynsey Dunbar; stepgranddaughter, Ryan Recupero; stepgrandson, Reece Orrick; his mother, Annie Mae Dunbar, Roanoke; one brother, Scott Dunbar, Roanoke. EWEN, John, 69, of Hardy, died Thursday, August 1, 1996 in a local hospital. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and was retired Postmaster of Richwood, N.J. Surviving are his wife, Winifred; sons, Richard Ewen, Roanoke, Joseph Ewen, Indiana; daughters, Laurie Miller, Boones Mill, Patricia Bauman, Botetourt Co., Kathleen Steussing, New Jersey; grandchildren, Michelle and John Karklin, Colleen and Samantha Ewen, Kristi, Jessie and John Miller, Elizabeth and Stephen Steussing, Ryan Bauman; brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Carol Knowles, Vermont; sister-in-law and husband, Patricia and Robert Sandberg, Moneta. FRANKLIN, Florence T., 77, of Roanoke, and formerly of Trenton and Princeton, N.J., died Wednesday, July 31, 1996. She was the widow of George H. Franklin, and was a retired secretary from N.J. Porcelain Co., the Lawrenceville School, and Princeton University. She attended Covenant Presbyterian of Trenton. Surviving are two sons, Robert G. Franklin and Roger L. Franklin, Union, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Rima and Carley Franklin; one sister. Services and interment will be private. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.

HALL, Lucille Miller, 70, of 402 8th Street, Charlottesville, and formerly of Pittsylvania County, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. She was born on September 12, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late James (``Jim"") Miller and Sallie Wray Miller. She was educated in the public school system of Pittsylvania County and attended Lynchburg Seminary and College. She taught in Pittsylvania County for a short time. She was married to the Reverend Dr. E. G. Hall, who survives, and was a homemaker. Prior to leaving Pittsylvania County, she was a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church in Gretna. Upon relocating to Charlottesville, she united with Ebenezer Baptist Church, where her husband serves as the pastor. She was an active and faithful member of her church, serving as the First Lady of the church and as a member of the Ministers' Wives Association. She also was vice president of the Green Leaf Garden Club in Charlottesville. In addition to her husband of the residence in Charlottesville, she is survived by one daughter, Rachel Clark of Edison, N.J.; three sisters, Minnie Edwards of Roanoke, Virginia Glass of Java and Catherine Coleman of Danville; five brothers, James Miller of Irvington, N.J., Gordon Miller, Jack Miller and Latane Miller of Gretna, and David Miller of Petersburg; one grandson, Kevin Olivis of New Mexico, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Naamon Miller, John Miller and Alsee Miller. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from Mount Airy Baptist Church in Gretna by the Rev. R. P. King, with burial in the Miller family cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ebe nezer Baptist Church in Charlottesville from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and other times at the residence. HILL, Dunbar J., 80, of Salem, passed away Monday, July 29, 1996. A native of Salem, Mr. Hill was the son of the late Henry and Britannia Hill. He retired from Appalachian Power Company after 33 years of service. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, member of Salem Lodge #120 AF&AM, Acorn Consistory #103, Aladdin Temple #111, Past Patron Success #85, OES of Va., P.H.A. Survivors include wife, Kathleen C. Hill, Salem; daughter, Kathleen H. Manson, Salem; one sister, Mary E. Hill, Salem; one sister-in-law, Helen C. Winters, Denver, Colo.; devoted nephew, Edward (Lillie) Calloway, Roanoke; nieces, Arnieze (William) Knox, Long Branch, N.J., Lois (Arthur) Lee, Salem; nephews, William (Pam) Hill, Petersburg, James (Joan) Hill, Roanoke; devoted cousin, Frances H. Gravely; godson, Anthony L. Jackson; brother-in-law, James Harris, both of Salem; devoted caregiver, Nancy P. Brown, Roanoke. HUBBARD, Annie Florence, 87, of Roanoke County, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Hubbard, Sr., and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pat Hubbard, North Canton, Oh.; daughters and son-in-law, Belle Martin, Doris Hartman and Delores and Cleo Hartman, all of Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, John and Prentice McGuire, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Beulah McGuire, Roanoke, Edith McGuire, Dayton, Oh.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God at Red Hill, by the Rev. Harry Hudson, with burial in Franklin Memorial Park. HUMMEL, Joseph Frederick Jr., 71, of Pulaski, died early Thursday morning, August 1, 1996, in the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Roanoke. He was born in Harrisburg, Pa. on May 11, 1925, and was the son of the late Joseph Frederick Hummel Sr. and Emma Weidenhof Hummel. He was a retired employee of R.A.A.P., Radford. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, Pulaski. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Gibbs Hummel. Surviving are three daughters, JoAnn Carlisle, Roanoke, Janet Hummel, Pulaski, Jill Tibbetts, Flagler Beach, Fla.; one sister, Jeanne Wingo, Dublin; one brother, Edgar M. Hummel, Cartersville, Ga.; four grandchildren. Mr. Hummel will be cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Patrick Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be Friday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 :30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society, P.O. KRASNOW, Winifred Spandorfer, 72, of Roanoke, known to her family and many friends as ``Winnie,"" passed away quietly in her sleep on Wednesday, July 31, 1996. She was born in Norfolk in 1923, and was a graduate of Old Dominion University. Mrs. Krasnow was retired from the Roanoke City Health Department, where she worked as a Family Planning Social Worker. She was predeceased by her husband, Clem Krasnow, and is survived by her daughter, Catherine Krasnow of Atlanta, Ga.; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Rita Krasnow of Roanoke; grandsons, Mark Krasnow and Daniel Krasnow of Roanoke; her sister and brother-in-law, Chicki and Chuck Lipton of Atlanta, Ga; her sister-in-law, Joanne Krasnow of Los Gatos, Calif., and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her warmth and strength very much. A graveside service will be held in Temple Emanuel Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, August 2, with Rabbi Kathy Cohen officiating. LAMB, Eileen Wykle, 70, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. She was born September 7, 1925 in Sarton, W.Va. to the late Elbert and Mamie Taylor Wykle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rivers Carl Lamb. She was a life-long member of the Mount Alexandria Methodist Church in Sarton, and also a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Blacksburg. She is survived by a son, Stephen Lamb, Salisbury, N.C.; a daughter, Joyce George, Dublin, Ga.; four grandchildren, Rivers and Katherine Lamb, both of Salisbury, N.C., Jessica and Susan George, both of Dublin, Ga.; two sisters, Margaret Collins, Peterstown, W.Va. and Faye Wykle, Union, W.Va.; and a brother, Bill Wykle, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the First Wesleyan Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 1996. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. LEDFORD, Lucy Drummond, 70, of New Castle, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996. She was preceded in death by her h usband, Howard Ledford Sr. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Edward Elmore, New Castle, Bonnie and Bruce Warf, Oriskany, Patty and Gary Crawford, Walbridge, Oh, Jackie and Todd Yancey, Hinton, W.Va.; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Ronny and Brenda Ledford, Covington, Toby and Sandy Ledford, Oriskany, George and Jeannie Ledford, Covington, Charlie and Debbie Ledford, Walbridge, Oh, Michael and Brenda Ledford, New Castle, Bill Ledford, New Castle, Howard and Lisa Ledford Jr, Roanoke; 26 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and 1 brother. MARSHALL, Scott Burkhalter, 89, formerly of Friendship Manor, Roanoke, died Thursday, August 1, 1996 in a Charlotte, N.C. convalescent center. She was the widow of Robert Douglas Marshall, Jr., who was retired as an attorney in Waverly, Va. She was a member or First Presbyterian Church, Roanoke and had taught piano in Tenne ssee as well as school in west and middle Tennessee. Prior to moving to Roanoke, the Marshall's resided in Williamsburg, Va. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. David Burkhalter, Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. William Burkhalter, Bethesda, Md.; a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 1996 in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Dr. Thomas Pugh and Dr. Donn K. Langfitt will officiate. NEELY, Edith Blankenship, 79, of Narrows, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996. A lifelong resident of Narrows, she was born on October 7, 1916, and was the daughter of the late William Ervin and Ettie McGuire Thorne Blankenship. She was a devoted member of the Cedar Grove Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Arthur, Paul, Marvin, and Alfred Blankenship; three sisters, Ruth Brooks, Effie and Hazel Blankenship; and a grandson, Neal Dennis. She is survived by her husband, Ray Neely of Narrows; four sons, James Dennis, Vinton, Thomas Dennis and Allen Neely, both of Narrows, Carl Lyle Neely, Chesterfield; two daughters, Patricia Walker, Phoenix, Ariz., Carol Ballard, Blacksburg; two sisters, Laura Smith and Helen Chambers, both of Rich Creek; and a special friend, Dickie Ingram of Narrows; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with Pastor Kellis McClaugherty, Minister of the Cedar Grove Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's in Narrows Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

POSS, Charles E., (``Buck''), 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 1996. He is survived by hi s wife, Virginia P. Poss; and one son, Charles E. ``Chuck'' Poss Jr. of Roanoke. Also surviving is his sister, Mrs. Evelyn Davis of Sylva, N.C. ``Buck'' attended Fishburne Military School and the University of Virginia, where he received many accolades for football and baseball. He was co-captain of the Cavalier baseball team and received All-American status in football. Mr. Poss was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, as well as the Lynchburg Lions Club and the Elks Club. ``Buck'' was a native of Charlottesville, and was retired from Allstate Insurance Co. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James G. Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 4502 Starkey Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24014. WHITMORE, Frances Katherine Grim, 93, of Natural Bridge, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996 in the Stonewall Jackson Extended Care Facility. Mrs. Whitmore was born October 23, 1902 in Natural Bridge, a daughter of the late Charles Madison Grim and Martha O'Flaherty Grim. She was a life-time member of the High Bridge Presbyterian Church, past member of the Natural Bridge Garden Club, past president of the Women of the Church and was also past member of the first Board of Directors of Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mrs. Whitmore was preceded in death by her husband, William Wilson Whitmore, Sr., and a son, William Wilson (Billy) Whitmore, Jr. Surviving are one daughter, Eloise W. Kurbjun, Yorktown; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 1996, at the High Bridge Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Glenn M. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials can be made to the High Bridge Presbyterian Scholarship Fund. WORTH, Hilda Staton, 63, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Worth; and is survived by a daughter, Sue Worth, Christiansburg; three sons and a daughter-in-law, David Worth, Barry and Connie Worth, all of Christiansburg, Jeffrey Worth, Salem; two grandchildren, Kristin Worth, Jessica Worth, both of Christiansburg; a sister, Juanita Tolley, Buchanan; a brother, Floyd Staton of Ohio. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Christiansburg, conducted by Rev. Mike Vest. Interment will be in Sherwood Burial Park in Salem.
