FIGHT SENDS MAN, 37, TO HOSPITAL

An Elliston man suffered head and facial injuries after being assaulted by three men at a trailer park early Saturday.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office gave this account: Deputies responded to a fight at Hales Trailer Park in Elliston at 2:54 a.m. and found Luther F. Shepherd, 37, suffering from wounds to the head and face. Shawsville rescue workers treated Shepherd at the scene before he was flown to Roanoke.

A Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital nursing supervisor declined to release Shepherd's condition at the request of his family.

Three suspects, Harold Dean Hawks, 33, Carl Douglas Short, 21, and Anthony Shawn Allen, 23, all of Elliston, were charged with malicious wounding and taken to Montgomery County Jail.

Allen was released on bond Saturday. Hawks and Short were still being held Saturday night.
