With the Closing Ceremonies of every Olympics comes the extinguishing of the cauldron. It also brings the introduction of the mascot for the next Games.
After all of the javelins thrown at Izzy, the Atlanta Games' morph mascot, it will be interesting to see what Sydney unveils tonight for the 2000 Summer Games.
If you can name the past Summer Games mascots, you're certainly an Olympiphile. The first Olympic mascot, though unofficial, was Schuss, at the Grenoble Games in the winter of 1968.
The Summer Games mascots names and life forms: 1972, Munich, Waldi (dachshund); 1976, Montreal, Amik (beaver); 1980, Moscow, Micha (bear); 1984, Los Angeles, Sam (eagle); 1988, Seoul, hodori (tiger); 1992, Barcelona, Cobi (dog); 1996, Atlanta, Izzy (Izzy?).
And for Down Under in 2000?
How about a kangaroo or a koala?
