BAIN, James Allen, 58, of Floyd, passed away Saturday, August 3, 1996, in Radford Community Hospital. Mr. Bain was an employee of Lynchburg Foundry. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Bain and Micky Bain. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Weeks Bain of Willis; five sons, Danny Bain of Christiansb urg, and Mark Bain, Allen Bain, Jodey Bain and Robbie Bain of Willis; four daughters, Tonya Slusher of Wytheville, Tamara Keith of Pilot, and Daniace Rodrigue and Jill Bain of Willis; one brother, Floyd Bain of Check; two sisters, Betty Richardson of Banning, Calif., and Rosemary Wyatt of Pacada, Calif., and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Kate Byrd, Fries; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Byrd, Glade Spring; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tony and Rhonda Byrd, Abingdon; great-grandchildren, Kelli Byrd and Cory Byrd, and several nieces and nephews. CUNDIFF, Harry Whitfield, 92, of Bluebell Lane, Roanoke, died Saturday, August 3,1996 at Friendship Manor Health Care Center. A long time member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, he retired as a machinist from the Norfolk & Western Railway after forty-seven years service. He was an honorary life member of the Association of Retired Railroad Employees, Roanoke District. Surviving are his wife, Vera Martin Cundiff; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Richard Roberts, Columbia, Mo., Nancy and Lee Moir, Richmond and Carol and the Rev. H. Vance Mann, Suffolk, Va.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward R. ""Ted"" Cundiff and a sister, Mildred C. Patterson, both of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 1996 from Oakey's North Chapel. The Rev. Alton M. Washington and the Rev. H. Vance Mann will officiate. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. FLUKE, Glenna Lawhorn, 87, of Vinton, died Saturday, August 3, 1996, at Berkshire Health Care Center in Vinton. She was a member of Vinton Baptist Church, and was retired from the Roland E. Cook school cafeteria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Maggie Lyles Lawhorn; two sisters, Margie Newton and Vicie Huddleston, and four brothers, Marvin, Joe, Jessie and Alvin Lawhorn. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, George A. Fluke Jr.; sisters, Maggie L. Nathe of San Diego, Calif., and Myrtle L. Marlow of Key West, Fla.; nine nephews, five nieces, and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 1996, with the Rev. Dr. William L. Ross officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. KANODE, James Wilburn, (``Johnny""), 67, of 1504 Overton Drive, Pulaski, died Saturday afternoon August 3, 1996, at his home. He was born in Virginia on July 3, 1929, and was the son of the late L. Q. Kanode and Anna Belle Asper Kanode. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Ree Kanode, and by a brother, Jackie Lee Kanode. He was a retired employee of Pulaski County, having 11 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Iris Kanode of Pulaski; daughters, Brenda Kanode Dills of Fredericksburg and Jane Kanode Nuckolls of West Union, S.C.; stepchildren, Jeffrey Kyle Covey of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Sandra Covey of Wilford, S.C.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Sargent of Virginia Beach and Nancy Stoots of Pulaski, and four brothers, Robert Kanode of Streetsboro, Ohio, Charlie Kanode and Harry Kanode of Pulaski and Billy Kanode of Boulder, Nev. KING, Daisy Grubb, 90, of Wytheville and formerly of Crockett, died Saturday, August 3, 1996, in the Wytheville Manor nursing home. She was the widow of Philbert Stanley King. She is survived by one daughter and son -in-law, Betty K. and Thurman Cox of Naples, Fla.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stanley and Darlene King of Wytheville and Jack King of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Neff of Rural Retreat and Mrs. Watson Catron of Wytheville; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Grubb Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Rance Edwards. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat. Mr. Kirby had been a plumber in the Roanoke Valley for over 35 years, and is survived by his wife, Margaret Anne Delp Kirby; his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lee and Rebecca Kirby of Roanoke, an d Raymond Darrell and Tammy Kirby of Blue Ridge; his daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Anne and Mark Taylor of Richmond, and Cindy Lee Anne and Neil Rider of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Kelsey Anne and Nicholas Michael Taylor, Andrew William and Kristin Leigh Kirby, and Zachary Brennan Rider; his mother, Emma Kirby of Salem; his brothers, Glenn and Randy Kirby of Salem; his sisters, Helen Carroll and Elsie Mitchell of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. LEE, William Watkins, Sr., (``Bill""), 57, of Roanoke, died suddenly Sunday, August 4, 1996. He was owner and operator of Lee Pools of Roanoke, which he established in 1969. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth Dawson Lee (principal of Patrick Henry High School); daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Elizabeth Anders on Lee Del Monaco and Thomas Del Monaco II of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, William Watkins Lee Jr. and Glenda Hodges Lee of Roanoke; two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. A. W. Lee Jr. (``Lelia"") of Annapolis, Md., and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Ruck and Robert J. Ruck of Annapolis. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's South Chapel at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, with burial at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery in Farmville. MORAN, Letcher Hampton, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, August 4, 1996. He was a former American Viscose employee and retired Elder having served churches in the New River Association of the Primitive Baptist Denomination and presently was a member of Stonewall Primitive Baptist Church in Floyd County. Elder Moran was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Flick Moran, and is survived by his daughter, Pauline M. (``Polly"") Barbour, Roanoke; his sons, John D. Moran, Allen R. Moran and James H. Moran, all of Roanoke; his brother, Dexter Moran, Christiansburg; his sisters, Lillie M. Lancaster, Salem, and Virgie M. Young, Williamsburg. Also surviving are five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 1996. NOURSE, Phyllis Stultz, 77, of Clearlake Oaks, Calif., formerly of Roanoke, Va., passed away Thursday, August 1, 1996, in Redbud Hospital in California. She was a daughter of the late Posey Green and Fannie Lee Stultz, and is survived by her brother, Clyde Stultz of Roanoke, and her sisters, Catherine Phipps and Dorothy Pecoraro of Roanoke. A graveside service will be held in Evergreen Burial Park at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, with Dr. M. Douglas Newman officiating. TINCHER, Amanda Niccole, 14, of Elliston, formerly of Alderson, W.Va., died Friday, August 2, 1996, in Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, W.Va., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 20 near Athens, W.Va. Born on March 18, 1982, she was the daughter of B. Harold Tincher of Elliston and Ruth Blevins Sheppard of Alderson. Amanda was preceded in death by one grandfather, Jess Tincher, and one grandmother, Helen Blevins. Amanda was a ninth grade honor student at Shawsville High School in Shawsville, Va., where she also was a cheerleader and member of the Beta Club. She was a member of Alderson Church of God. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Jason H. Tincher of Elliston; two sisters, Betty J. Phillips of High Point, N.C., and Ronileigh Sheppard of Alderson; one grandmother, Nellie Tincher of Alderson, and one great-grandmother, Bessie Blevins of Alderson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 1996, at Alderson Church of God, with the Rev. Phil Combs officiating. Burial will be in Griffiths Creek Cemetery near Alderson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Cousins will serve as pallbearers. WARNER, Roderick Howard, 89, of Lexington, died Saturday, August 3, 1996, in the Shenand oah Valley Health Care Facility. He was born November 3, 1906, in Hastings, Michigan, a son of the late Homer M. Warner and Wilda Blevin Warner. Mr. Warner was retired from Mobil Oil Company, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a life member of the Hastings Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Conner Warner. Surviving are two stepdaughters, Carolyn Whitmore Edwards and husband, Ronald, of Roanoke, Gloria Whitmore Clemmer, of Lexington; four stepgrandchildren, John Daniel Clemmer III, Rhonda Edwards, Tracy C. Higgins, Kimberly Clemmer; two nephews; one niece. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, August 9, 1996, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Patrick officiating. WOOLWINE, Dorothy Lee, 70, of 4716 Green Acres Dr., Salem, went to be with the Lord Sunday, August 4, 1996. She was retired after 29 years service from Roanoke Memorial Hospitals as a PBX operator. Mrs. Woolwine was a member of Green Ridge Baptist Church. She was predeceased by a sister, Eris Lee Irby. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. Woolwine Jr., and Darlene Danenberg Woolwine, of Salem; a grandson, Christopher Austin Woolwine; two sisters, Mrs . Sherman (Maxine) Firebaugh and Mrs. Charles (Janet) Robinson, both of Roanoke.
