At its first meeting since the July break, the Montgomery County School Board will again discuss the future of its superintendent.
Tonight, the Board will meet in executive session to discuss Superintendent Herman Bartlett's contract.
School Board Vice Chairman Barry Worth said Monday he added the issue to the meeting agenda. He said the board has not yet discussed whether Bartlett will receive a raise this year, or by how much. This spring, the board gave school employees a 4 percent raise.
In June, the board declined, by a 5-4 vote, to extend Bartlett's contract for another two years. As it stands now, his contract will end next spring. Aside from discussing a salary increase, Worth said any member of the board could also bring up the extension issue again. The School Board must vote in open session on any resolutions affecting the superintendent's pay or employment contract.
Once out of executive session, the board will discuss several grant proposals, and possible changes to graduation requirements and elementary school attendance policies.
As with every first meeting of the month, a half-hour is set aside for the public to speak. That will start after the executive session, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the School Board office on Junkin Street in Christiansburg.
