BURROUGHS, Cornelia Ayers, 73, of Hampton, died Monday, August 5, 1996 after a short illness. Born in Moneta, she had been a Hampton resident for the past forty years. Mrs. Burroughs retired as a branch manager with Nations Bank (Buckroe Branch) in 1985 after thirty-two years service. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a past president of the Phoebus Womans Club, a past treasurer of the Parents Organization of Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center and a member of the National Association of Bank Women. Mrs. Burroughs was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Burroughs; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert E. Ayers and her sister, Lucy Ann Robertson. Survivors include her daughter, Debbie B. Burroughs, of Hampton; two sisters, Antholeen A. Ellis, of Vinton, Isaphine Argabright, of Roanoke; her brother-in-law, Wesley Robertson, of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Burroughs and Alice Light, both of Roanoke; three nieces and four nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 3 p.m. Saturday August 10, 1996 with burial in Morgan's Baptist Church Cemetery, Moneta. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

CALLOWAY, George W., 80, of Montvale, passed away Monday, August 5, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Thursday, Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, Roanoke.

CHRISLEY, Mary Blair, 78, of Max Meadows, died Wednesday, August 7, 1996. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Max Meadows Pentecostal Holiness Church. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville.

DOSS, Clara Manning, 94, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 6, 1996 at Friendship Manor following a lengthy illness. Born in Botetourt County, she was the daughter of the late Griffith M. and Mattie Hurt Manning of Floyd. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest L. (``Jack'') Doss. Mrs. Doss was the last member of her immediate family and was a longtime member of the First Church of the Brethren, Roanoke. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Emily Manning, Salem, Virginia M. Doss, Charlotte, N.C.; four nephews, Ebbie L. Manning, Blue Ridge, Barry Firebaugh, Abingdon, Dr. James L. Doss, Winston-Salem, N.C., Raymond E. Doss, Jr., New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a niece, Martha Firebaugh Hurst, Richlands. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 1996 from Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, conducted by Pastor David Miller. The family will receive friends starting at noon Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel

GUNTER, Janette Trula, 77, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 6, 1996. Mrs. Gunter was the widow of Hursell G. Gunter. Surviving are her sister, Helen Arbogast Wallace, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Margaret Myers, Roanoke; a special friend, Jo Arbogast, Roanoke; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2 p.m Friday August 9, 1996 with Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Interment in Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to hospice of Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday

HYLTON, Frank Hershel, 88, of Route 2, Box 196, Marti nsville, died Wednesday, August 7, 1996, in Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. He was born December 8, 1907 in Floyd County, son of the late Charles Henry Hylton and Sharah Ellen Pratt Hylton. He worked as a fireman in the boiler room of Hooker Furniture, and was a member of Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Florence G. Hylton of Martinsville; two daughters, Frances H. Warren of Dayton, Ohio and Mary H. Faw, Darlington of S.C.; two sons, Robert C. Hylton Sr. of Martinsville and Billy M. Hylton of Martinsville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9, 2 p.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Cannaday and Rev. Luther Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Chapel, and other times at the home of Robert Hylton, Hill & Dale Street, Gaynor Hgts., Martinsville. Arrangements by Roselawn Funeral Home.

JANNEY, Richard Haston, 81, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 7, 1996. Mr. Janney was retired from Singer Furniture Company, and is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Mae Janney; his son, Richard, and his daughter, JoAnne, both of Roanoke; his stepchildren and their spouses, Tommy and Donna of California, Norma and Bill, Barbara and Marty, all of Salem; 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in Fair View Cemetery Friday, August 9, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David P. Fisher officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

PAGANS, Ervin Silbon, 67, of Wirtz, died Monday, August 5, 1996. Born March 5, 1929, he was preceded in death by his father, Pete L. Pagans, brother, Mearl Pagans, sister, Ruby Holland. He was a store merchant for 31 years; a farmer ; and active member of Mt. Ivy Christian Church. Married 47 years ago, August 6, he is survived by his loving wife, Helen Housman Pagans of the home; mother, Frances English Pagans of Wirtz; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Kenneth Pasley of Moneta, Debbie and Dale Simmons of Wirtz; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Mae Pagans of Moneta, Wesley Pagans and special friend Cherry Shuey of Wirtz; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete ""Junior"" and Frances Pagans of Moneta, Henry and Shirley Pagans of Wirtz, William ""Buck"" and Pam Pagans of Hardy; five sisters, four brothers-in-law, Flossie and Posey Holland of Rocky Mount, Nancy Holland of Wirtz, Estelle and Floyd Bolling of Moneta, Mildred and Henry Hartman of Rustburg, Drucillia and Mack McCoy of Wirtz; ten grandchildren, Rev. Steve Pasley, Becky Hodges and husband James, Kim Pagans and fiancee Ricky Tuck, Shelly Simmons, Coleman Simmons, Chad Simmons, Wesley Pagans Jr., Brad Pagans, Danielle Shuey and Jessica Shuey; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 1996 at Mt. Ivy Christian Church, with the Revs. J. D. Hunt and Melvin Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. TIPTON, Monroe Esley, 77, of Dugspur, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. Mr. Tipton was born in Carroll County, Va. and was the son of the late Ernest Tipton and Mary Costigan Tipton. Mr. Tipton served in the U.S. Army for 4 1/2 years. He retired from RAAP in 1979. Survivors include his wife, Junia Sutphin Tipton; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Mary Tipton, of Hillsville, Bayne and Marlene Tipton, of Cana; daughters and son-in-law, Wanda and James King, of Pulaski, Deborah Marshall, of Hillsville; several half sisters and brothers; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 1996 with the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sutphin Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Hillsville V.F. TOMLIN, Edith Lillian Pendergrass, 77, of Bedford, died Tuesday, August 6, 1996, at Bedford County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Bedford County on March 13, 19 19, a daughter of the late Charles Pendergrass and Lola Claytor Pendergrass. She was a former employee of Fink's Jewelers and Leggett's Department Store, and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Everett R. Tomlin Sr.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne T. and Richard W. Wingfield, Bedford, Gayle T. and Doug Kiger, Collinsville; a son, Johnny Tomlin, Bedford; two sisters, Stella Thornton Webb, Baltimore, Md. and Sterling Ross Walker, Moneta; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 9, 1996, at 1 p.m. at Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wessley C. Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
