GOING FOR THE GOLD

The Olympic flame is barely out and in homes across America, athletes are already training for future events, such as:

Telephone hurdles - Teen-agers leap over small furniture and animals to reach the phone before competing siblings or officials. Often followed by the talking marathon.

Car jockeying - A verbal competition. Parents and young drivers attempt to schedule the use of two cars among three drivers. Use of a car to drive to work is a foul.

Rings relay - Occurs 30 seconds after starving athletes sit down to dinner. The telephone rings. A telemarketer begins spiel to the teen-ager who has answered (see hurdles, above). Teen-ager must pass the phone to the nearest adult before the telemarketer takes his first breath. This is a timed event.

Remote control dash - This requires competitors to see how many channels they can jump between during commercials. Points awarded for perfectly timed entry to original program. For male athletes only.
