LET THE GAMES BUGLE: Eight world-class drum and bugle corps of up to 128 members, ages 16-21, have put in arduous hours of practice to perfect bugle-and-percussion performances for tonight's Summer Music Games of Southwest Virginia. The creative, energetic musical and visual competitions begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center Stadium Complex. Tickets, at the center box office, are $12. Call 375-3004 or (800) 288-2122.

BOATS AT BERNARD'S: Mellow wood planking, polished metal and engines gently reverberating within mahogany and cedar hulls will be part of the experience for visitors to the sixth annual Antique Boat Show and Rally today and Saturday at Smith Mountain Lake. Classic vessels on display will include a 1908 Faye and Bowen launch; a 1952 19-foot Chris Craft racer; and the Franklin County bateau that recently participated in the James River Festival contest. The rally, sponsored by the Smith Mountain Lake Antique and Classic Boat Club, will be held at Bernard's Landing. A boat parade, water competitions, awards dinner and sock hop also are planned. TEENS' TRADER: Sega games, trading cards, comic books, bikes and trendy clothes will be likely loot at Saturday's Teen Flea Market at the Roanoke County Brambleton Center. The premier event, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., will be in conjunction with the monthly senior flea market. Tables can still be rented today for $1 by students in grades 6-12 and their parents. Call 772-2058.

DYNAMIC DUO: Guitarist/singer Duncan Wood and flutist Danielle Gerard, who recently performed on the "Turning Point" CD produced by Greg Trafidlo and Warren Kurtz, will showcase their diverse repertoire of classical, pop, rock, jazz and folk music Saturday at the Sedalia Center in Big Island near Bedford. Singer/pianist Debra Lee Hall of Salem will open the show at 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $6; $2 for people under age 16. Call (804) 299-5080.

MAC LAUGHS: Comedian Bernie Mac, whose film appearances include "House Party 3," "Above the Rim" and "Walking Dead," and whose TV credits include "Def Comedy Jam" and "Midnight Mac" on HBO, will create causes to chuckle Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center. TRIP TO OZ: Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion will once again traverse the yellow brick road to the enchanted land of Oz in Franklin County Community Theater's production of "The Wizard of Oz." Performances in the Rocky Mount High School auditorium will be at 8 tonight, Saturday, Aug. 16 and Aug. 17. Admission costs $3 for students, $4 for seniors and $6 for adults. Call 489-4810.

TRIP TIP: Big-name performers, including Aaron Tippin, Bryan White, Dan Seals, Pam Tillis, Blackhawk, Tanya Tucker and others, as well as rides, rodeos and everything else that makes state fairs great will be at the 72nd annual State Fair of West Virginia, today through Aug. 17.
