TOWNE SQUARE KROGER SUPERMARKET ROBBED

The Kroger grocery store at Towne Square Shopping Center was robbed early Thursday.

Roanoke police gave this account:

A man walked into the supermarket on Rutgers Street Northwest about 3:45 a.m., told the clerk he had a gun and threatened to shoot her if she called for help.

The man, believed to be in his late 20s, put his hand on his waistband and demanded money. The clerk gave him an undetermined amount of cash, and he fled in a car.

Police also reported that two men wearing black hoods entered an apartment in the Lansdowne Park public housing complex about 12:40 a.m. Thursday and tried to rob a man who lives there.

Shawn Maurice Edmonds, 20, said the two men brandished chrome revolvers and woke up several people in the apartment. The men asked for money, but left when they didn't receive any.
