Housing complex to be refinanced
Highland Mortgage Co. of Glen Allen has placed a $3.4million loan for refinancing Hunter's Ridge Apartments in Blacksburg. The loan is for 35 years at a fixed rate of 8.125 percent.
The apartment project consists of 72 four-bedroom units and is owned by University Housing Corp. The manager is DMI Corp. of Williamsburg.
The loan was insured by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Bankruptcies
Seven bankruptcies with business affiliations have been filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Western Virginia at Roanoke. All of them are personal bankruptcies that the court listed as businesses because they have commercial connections and could be of interest to business creditors and customers.
* Judy K. Taylor of Roanoke filed for a wage-earner plan for repayment of debts with assets of $17,070 and liabilities of $31,017. She is a self-employed court reporter.
* Christopher T. Knight and Lisa F. Knight of Salem filed for a wage-earner plan for repayment of debts with assets of $94,160 and liabilities of $115,841. Lisa Knight operates The Hair Company.
* Robert Gene Christenson and Margaret Chisom Christenson of Roanoke filed for liquidation with assets of $5,900 and liabilities of $61,508. They operate Chameleon Car Care.
* Ernest Junior Walker of Roanoke, owner of Walker Fence and Railings, filed for a wage-earner plan for repayment of debts. He estimated both assets and liabilities at more than $50,000.
* Farley Ray Thomas and Angela Lowe Thomas of Abingdon filed for liquidation with assets of $57,350 and liabilities of $73,929. Angela Thomas is a self-employed day-care provider.
* James Hugh Callahan of Glade Spring filed for liquidation with assets of $1,600 and liabilities of $11,062. He is self-employed doing odd jobs.
* Bobby Carter Rose Jr. of Honaker filed for liquidation with assets of $25,300 and liabilities of $58,300. He operates Rose Logging.
