Policyholders of Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield will meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 6 at the company's headquarters in Richmond to vote on a proposal to convert from a mutual insurer to a stock company.
Trigon has mailed information statements, a proxy card and related materials to about 200,000 policyholders eligible to vote.
If an employer has a health plan with Trigon, the employer is eligible to vote, but the covered workers are not.
The conversion plan is also subject to approval by the Virginia Corporation Commission, which is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the subject at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 in Richmond.
Norwood Davis Jr., Trigon chairman, said the conversion to a stock company will not affect premiums or other terms of health insurance policies.
