BOGGESS, Helen Virginia, 73, of R.F.D. 1, Buchanan, died Thursday, August 8, 1996. She was the widow of Floyd A. Boggess and is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and William Pritt, Spencer, Marie and William Jones, Troutville; sons and daughters-in-law, Earl and Rita Boggess, Harry and Georgette Boggess, Paul and Gina B oggess, all of Buchanan; sisters, Janie Hill, Margaret Dudley, Eva Schultz, Lidy Dudley; brothers, Robert Wilcher, Carl Wilcher, and Junior Wilcher; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Sunday, August 11, 1996, 2 p.m., in the Eagle Rock Funeral Chapel with burial in Springwood Baptist Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Edward Pope. BURNETTE, Margaret Eloise Lovern, of Route 1, Dublin, passed away Thursday, August 8, 1996 in the Radford Community Hospital. Born August 27, 1930 in Pulaski County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Robert Murray Lovern and Jessie Jordan Lovern. She was preceded in death by a brother, Oakley J. Lovern. Surviving are her husband, George Allen Burnette, Dublin; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Linda B.) Reed, Christiansburg, Mrs. Charles (Shirley B.) Duncan, Dublin, Wanda J. Bowyer, Radford; six grandchildren, Teri Shannon Reed, Shawn Thomas Reed, Kristie Suzanne Duncan, Tammy Rae Duncan, Margaret DeeAnna Roope, Miranda Christine Whitt; one great-granddaughter, Katelynn BreAnna Cowan; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Juanita E.) COCHRAN, Minnie Ila, 87, of Hillsville, passed away Thursday, August 8, 1996 in Twin County Regional Hospital. She was born January 9, 1909 in Carroll County. She is survived by a brother, Collin Cochran, Hillsville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Allie Staples, Hillsville and Stella Howlett, Hillsville. FLIGGINS, Inez Smith, 76, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, August 7, 1996. She was born in Pilot on April 9, 1920 to the late Lillian Haley and Ward Smith, one of fourteen child ren. She joined Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church at an early age where she had been a member of the usher board and church choir. She attended regularly until her health failed. She was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Fliggins. Survivors include one son, William Smith, of Christiansburg; one sister, Emma Woody, of Keystone, W. Va.; five grandsons; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren. Special friends are Mrs. Charlene Dobson and Mrs. Mary Nolan and Mrs. Geraldine Tolliver. Funeral services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church, Christiansburg, Va. with the Rev. Lee Suggs officiating. Burial will be at the Schaeffer Memorial Cemetery. GRUBB, James Randolph, 79, of Cripple Creek, died Thursday evening, August 8, 1996, in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Hilda L. Grubb, Cripple Creek; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James R. Grubb Jr., Ango la, Ind., Bayne and Mildred Grubb, Cripple Creek; one brother, R. K. Grubb, Hardy; brother-in-law, T. B. Frye, Abbs Valley; sister-in-law, Helen Grubb, Uniontown, Pa. Three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild also survive. HAWKS, Everett G., 65, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 1996, in Northern Hospital of Surry County, due to injuries from an auto accident. He was born April 30, 1931 in Carroll County. Mr. Hawks was preceded in deat h by his parents, Coy Donald and Octavia Melicia Quesenberry Hawks. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 39 years as an electronic technician specialist. He then returned to where his heart and dreams were for many years - back home to the Blue Ridge Mountains. He is survived by two sisters, Delois E. Spellings, Fairfax, Evelyn Quesenberry, Roanoke; two brothers, Marvin W. Hawks, Hillsville, Lance C. Hawks, Hillsville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 1996, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Elder Melvin McGrady and Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Interment will be in Puckett Cemetery. MUSSER, Howard Eugene, 67, of Roanoke, died Thursday, August 8, 1996 at the VA Medical Center in Salem. He was a Roanoke City Councilman for twelve years. he was elected Vice Mayor for all three terms. He served on numerous committees, Lee Plaza War Memorial, Mill Mountain Zoo and Cablevision and many others all if which were of great importance to him. He was a member of the Huntington Court Methodist Church. He was wounded while serving in the Korean War. He was retired from General Electric after thirty-two years and he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Jean Umberger Musser. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer M. Saul, Sandra M. and Daniel Barham, all of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Ashley Powell, of Roanoke, Charles Barham and Christopher Barham, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Monday August 12, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with Dr. Noel C. Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lotz Salem Chapel.

RILEY, Harold Goldthorpe, 81, of Roanoke died at home, Thursday, August 8, 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Henderson Riley; son, Gregory Keith Riley. WITT, Tressie Hawkins, 89, of Carriage Hill Retirement Center, Bedford, formerly of Lynchburg, died Thursday, August 8, 1996, at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Thomas W. Witt, and was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. Mrs. Witt was born September 18, 1906, in Bedford County, to the late Dora Coffey Hawkins and Junious F. Hawkins. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Mrs. William G. (Loretta) Woodford Jr. of Lynchburg, Mrs. Kelly W. (Reva) Watson of Kingsport, Tenn., Mrs. William L. (June) Smith of Abingdon; a sister, Goldie H. Walker of Bedford; and five grandsons, Thomas G. Woodford, Daniel W. Woodford, both of Roanoke, Michael W. Watson of Ridgeway, Jeffrey K. Woodford of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Adam D. Smith of Abingdon; and her sister-in-law, Mabel Hawkins of Bedford. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cleo McGhee and Anna Woodford; and a brother, J. W. Hawkins.
