FUGITIVE CHARGED WITH ROBBING GROCERY STORE

A West Virginia man is being held in Roanoke City Jail on charges that he robbed a grocery store and a convenience store earlier in the week.

Curtis E. Smith, 38, was arrested about 1 p.m. Friday at an apartment in the 3300 block of Hershberger Road, police said.

Smith is being held without bond on two counts of robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with robberies at the Kroger on Rutgers Street on Thursday and the Fast Fare Crown Store on Peters Creek Road early Friday, police said.

Smith is a fugitive from White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., where he is wanted on car theft charges. He will face an extradition hearing, according to arrest warrants.
