CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS I

Muddiman-Goforth

Miss Kristy Beth Goforth and Mr. Paul Edward Muddiman were married on Saturday, August 10, 1996 at two o'clock in the afternoon at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton, Virginia with Reverend William Anthony Layman and Dr. George Wesley Jones officiating. The reception was held at Hunting Hills Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James C. (Buck) Goforth of Roanoke. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Muddiman of Vinton.

Escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore an elegant gown of silk shantung designed by Amsale of New York. The fitted bodice was accented with a scoop neckline and short cap sleeves and was enhanced by delicate alencon lace. The full skirt fell into a chapel length train which was trimmed with wide border lace. The bride's headpiece was a handmade double bow of silk shantung with a single sheet of veiling which cascaded the entire length of the train. She carried a bouquet of white and peach roses, white bridal lilies, cascading orchids and ivy.

Amy Boardman of Glen Rock, NJ, friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Tracy Rohrbaugh of Reston, Va., friend of the bride; and cousins of the bride Tisha Barnett of Salisbury, NC; Melaney Barnett of Huntington, WV; and Heather Goforth of Charlottesville, Va. who served as junior bridesmaid. Katie Goforth, also of Charlottesville and cousin of the bride, served as flower girl.

Paul M. Muddiman, father of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Phillip Muddiman of Vinton, brother of the groom; Jamie Goforth of Roanoke, brother of the bride; Kevin Hix of Roanoke, and Michael Conar of Athens, Tn, both friends of the groom. Jonathan Goforth of Charlottesville, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer.

Patrick Martin of Reston, Va., cousin of the bride, served as acolyte and scripture reader. The guest book attendant was Mrs. Linda Watkins of Roanoke.

Mrs. Elaine Layman of Vinton was soloist and Mr. John Johnson of Vinton played the organ. Photography was by Greg King of King Photography in Vinton. The wedding was dir ected by Ms. Corbin Craig of Roanoke.

The bride obtained a bachelor of arts degree in Government from the University of Virginia. The groom has a bachelor of science degree in Biology from Emory and Henry College and is currently pursuing his master of science degree in Forensic Science at Virginia Commonwealth University.

After a honeymoon cruise to the Southern Caribbean the couple will reside in Richmond.

Noble-Thomas

Kimberly Thomas and Steve Noble were married April 27, 1996, in St. Michael Lutheran Church with Reverend Jacob Mayer officiating. The reception was held at Custom Catering of Blacksburg. The maid of honor was Miss Linda Martin, friend of bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Cheryl Floeckher and Mrs. Kristen Blumer-Valdez, friends of bride. Flower girls were Miss Alicia Caldwell and Miss Lindsay Meredith, nieces of groom. Father of groom, Mr. Robert Noble, served as best man. Ushers were Mr. Don Lowe, friend of groom, and Mr. Gabriel Caldwell, nephew of groom. Guest book was attended by Mrs. Marcelle Taylor. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie G. Thomas, Broomfield, Colo. She graduated from Broomfield High School, Broomfield, Colo., and from Duke University, Durham, N. C. She is employed by Hoechst Celanese. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Noble, Pearisburg. He graduated from Giles High School, Pearisburg, and is employed by Hoechst Celanese. The newlyweds will live in Pearisburg after a wedding trip to Jamaica.

Obenchain-Stump

Sheila Ann Stump and Richard Lee Obenchain were married August 10, 1996 at their home. Rev. Andrew Draughn officiated.

The maid of honor was Annette Jones, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Karen Woolwine, the groom's sister, Rebecca Obenchain, the groom's daughter, Janet Fitzgerald, the bride's aunt, and Audra Martin, the bride's cousin. Flowergirls were Danielle Obenchain and Candice Obenchain, the groom's daughters.

The best man was Lewis Dale Obenchain, the groom's father. Ushers were Greg Obenchain, the groom's brother, Chuck Woolwine, the groom's brother-in-law, David Scott, Doug Baker, both friends of the groom, and Russ Fitzgerald, the bride's cousin.

Ringbearer was Blake Martin, the bride's cousin. Guestbook attendant was Mary Beth East. The bride wore a western style gown and carried a bouquet of yellow and peach roses.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Stump. She is a graduate of Glenvar High School and National Business College. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. Dale Obenchain and Mrs. Ann Reese. The newlyweds will live in Salem, Va. after the wedding trip to the Bahamas.

Ogden-Hofe

Catherine Fraser Hofe of San Francisco, California and Robert Bruce Ogden of San Luis Obispo, California, were united in marriage on July 27, 1996 at West Side Church, Block Island, Rhode Island. The Reverend James H. Purdy, Rector of St. John's Parish, Beverly Farms, Massachusetts, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Frederick Hofe of Morris Township, New Jersey and Block Island, Rhode Island. The bridegroom is th e son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Howell Ogden of Salem, Virginia.

The bride was attended by Ann Mosher Ransone, friend of the bride, from Santa Barbara, California. Bridesmaids were Kathryn Wade Ogden of Arlington, Virginia, Elizabeth Howell Ogden of Charlottesville, Virginia, sisters of the bridegroom, Charlotte Chisholm Hofe of San Francisco, California, and Caroline French Hofe of Morristown, New Jersey, sisters of the bride.

William Alexander Ransone of Santa Barbara, California, friend of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were John Montague Ogden of Arlington, Virginia, brother of the bridegroom, Chisholm Douglas Hofe of Morris Township, New Jersey, brother of the bride, Robert Harold Coyle of Lyme, New Hampshire, and Henry Whitfield Tooke, III of Washington, D.C., friends of the bridegroom.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held on the lawn of the Narragansett Inn.

The bride is a graduate of the Pomfret School, Pomfret, Connecticut and Roanoke College, Salem, Virginia, and received a Master's degree from Boston University. She is currently interning at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. The bridegroom is a graduate of Salem High School, Salem, Virginia, attended Roanoke College, and is co-owner of restaurants in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, California. After a wedding trip to Kaui, Hawaii, the couple will make their home in San Luis Obispo, California.

Parrish-Decker

Debra Gayle Decker and Russell Wilson Parrish were married July 13, 1996, at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Moneta, Va. Pastor Mike Winters performed the ceremony. The reception was held at the church fellowship hall.

Debra is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Fox of Moneta, Va. Russell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Parrish, Elliston, Va. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

Tracy Lynne Decker, daughter of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Julie Parrish, daughter of the groom, and Jenni Dotson, friend of the bride. Junior bridesmaids were Lindsey Fox and Meredith Fox. Flower girl was Emmy Phoenix. Steve Blanton served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were Michael Fox, brother of bride, and Michael Decker, son of bride. Junior groomsmen and ring bearer was Dustin Wilcox. Sue Hancock, aunt of bride, was guest book attendant. Wedding coordinator, Jan Johnson. Bride and groom portrait by Betty Lou Fox, sister-in-law of bride.

After a honeymoon in Cancun, the newlyweds will reside in Moneta, Va.

Ratliff-Spiers

Sarah Elizabeth Spiers and Mark Scott Ratliff were united in marriage Saturday, August 10, 1996 at North Roanoke Baptist Church, with Dr. Darryl G. Crim officiating.

Sarah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary H. Spiers of Staunton, Va. Mark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene R. Ratliff of Roanoke, Va.

Stephanie Primmer, college roommate of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Emily Trexler, friend of the couple, and Debra Ratliff, sister of the groom.

Jonathan Stewart, friend of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were John-Michael Tota, college roommate of the groom, and Gary Spiers, Jr., brother of the bride.

Mary Pate, cousin of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. Morgan and Ryan Pate, cousins of the bride, were flower girl and ring bearer.

The couple will reside in Fredericksburg, Virginia while completing their senior year at Mary Washington College.

Reynolds-Clay

Christi Lynn Clay and Christopher Todd Reynolds were married August 3, 1996 at Waverly on Smith Mountain Lake, with the Rev. Carter Sloan officiating. The reception was held at Waverly Club House.

The maid of honor was Traci Clay, sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were Dee Dee Wiseman, Tanya Trent, and Andrea Boggs, friends. Flower girls were Leslie Chockley and Jenna Blankenship, cousins.

The best man was Jerry Reynolds, father of the groom. The ushers were Mark Peerman, Rob McNeil, and Scott Groves, friends. The guestbook attendant was Jessie Dupre.

The groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Westlake Country Club.

The bride wore a sweetheart gown with fitted bodice and tulle skirt adorned with sequins and pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of stargazer lilies and white roses.

The bride is the daughter of Joseph Clay of Moneta, and Carole Clay of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and is employed by Dr. Thews and Dr. Merian, DDS.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Reynolds of Hardy. He is a graduate of Franklin County High School and ECPI, and is employed by Technology Service Solutions.

The newlyweds will live in Roanoke, after their wedding trip to Cancun.

Richardson-Chisom

Miss Vickie Lynn Chisom and Mr. Brent Wiley Richardson were married August 10, 1996, at Central United Methodist Church in Salem, Virginia. Officiating was Dr. William A. Davis, Jr. The reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Peggy Danielsen, sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Angela Price, friend of the bride, Miss Angela Richardson, sister of the groom, Ms. Missy Steffey, friend of the bride and groom, and Mrs. Andi Wright, friend of the bride. The flower girls were Miss Brittany Biggs, niece of the bride, and Miss Caitlin Price, friend of the bride. The bride's book and programs were attended by Mrs. Michelle McGhee.

The best man was Mr. Price Richardson, father of the groom. The groomsmen were Mr. Sherman Chisom, Jr., brother of the bride, Mr. Kevin Richardson, brother of the groom, Mr. Derek Tinsley, friend of the groom, and Mr. Andy Yopp, cousin of the groom. The ring bearer was Master Christopher Danielsen.

Vickie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Chisom of Vinton. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. May Chisom and the late Mr. Mitchell Chisom and Mr. George Bush, Jr., and the late Mrs. Devonia Bush. She is a graduate of Staunton River High School and ECPI. She is employed by Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Brent is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Richardson of Salem. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. W. Price Richardson and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Garnett. He is a graduate of Salem High School. He is employed by First Team Auto Mall

The newlyweds will live in Fincastle after they return from their wedding trip to Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas.

Richardson-Okerman

Romma Okerman and Chester Richardson were married on June 8, 1996 at Grace Lutheran Church in High Point, N.C. The bride was presented in marriage by her son, Dane Okerman. Attending were Genia Gunn of Christiansburg, Va., and Jeff Rogers of High Point, N.C. The Rev. Lynn Spears of Seattle, Wa., officiated. The bride is the daughter of Elbert and Lois Huddleston of Roanoke. The groom is the son of Virginia Moody of Pulaski, and the late Roy Richardson. Reception was held at the bride's home. After a honeymoon in Washington, D.C., the couple live in High Point, N.C.

Roberts-Bailey

Sheri Denise Bailey and Stephen Wayne Roberts were married June 8, 1996 in a double ring ceremony in Vancouver, Washington. They were attended by James Simmons & Brooke Bruder of Portland, Ore.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Douglas Bailey Jr. of Goodview, Va. She is employed by U.S. Air as a flight attendant. The bridegroom, son of Mr. & Mrs. William J. Roberts of Goodview, Va., is a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem and is employed by Yellow Cab Co. The newlyweds will live in Goodview. The couple plan a wedding trip to Lima, Peru, South America in February.

Rochelle-Slusser

Amy Elaine Slusser and Eric David Rochelle were married August 10, 1996 in Blacksburg with Rev. Richard Gilbert of Slusser's Chapel officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry E. Slusser of Blacksburg. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Peter Rochelle of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.

Matron of honor was Rhonda Jennings, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Amy Shorter, friend of the bride, and Renee' Rochelle, sister of the groom.

Best man was H. Peter Rochelle, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Chris Murphy of Bernardsville, N.J., and Brandon Morgan of Jefferson, N.J., friends of the groom.

Ushers were Mike Slusser, brother of the bride, and Dewayne Jennings, brother-in-law of the bride.

The guest book was attended by April Hutchinson, of Chesterfield, Va., friend of the bride and groom.

An outdoor wedding and reception was held at the bride's parents home in Blacksburg. Reception was catered by Classic Cuisine, Judd Flynn, owner. Cake by Kathy Bennett, and music by Mike and Sharon Knight.

The bride is a graduate of Blacksburg High School, attended New River Community College, and is a rising senior at Virginia Tech. The groom graduated from Jefferson Township, N.J., and is Owner/Operator of Rochelle Homes.

After a European wedding trip, the couple will make their home in Blacksburg.

Shapiro-Quick

Kathryn Louise Quick and Eric Seth Shapiro, both of Portland, Oregon, were married Saturday July 20 1996 under the gazebo at Ellerbe Springs Inn, Ellerbe, North Carolina, by the Rev. Dale Dixon of Rockingham, N. C.

Leslie Ann Morgan and Brian David Simmers were married August 10, 1996, in St. Michael Lutheran Church with Rev. Jacob Mayer, Pastor, officiating. The reception was held at the University Club. Mrs. Christy Black, friend of bride, was maid of honor. Mrs. Debbie Wood and Mrs. Peggy O'Rourke, sisters of bride, were matrons of honor. Bridesmaids were Ms. Karan Rutledge, friend of bride, Ms. Lindsay Robinson, niece of groom, and Mrs. Sharon Robinson, sister-in-law. The flower girl was Lauren Robinson, niece of groom. Benjamin Simmers, Sr., father of groom, served as best man. Vest-Pagans

Jennifer Lynn Pagans and Eric Christopher Vest were united in marriage at 2:00 p.m. on August 10th, 1996, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Roanoke, Virginia, with Reverend Gregory officiating. The reception followed the ceremony at the War Memorial in Vinton, Virginia.

Miss Amanda Pagans was her sister's maid of honor. Her bridesmaids were Miss Sara Bryant, cousin of the br ide; Miss Amy Vest and Miss Jessica Vest, sisters of the groom.

Mr. Roger Vest was his son's best man. The groomsmen were Mr. Jonathan Vest, brother of the groom; Mr. Duane Martin and Mr. David Brooks, friends of the groom. Tristan Vest, nephew of the groom, was the ringbearer. The Bible carrier was Mr. Jason Bryant, cousin of the bride.

The bride wore a silk shantung gown with an off the shoulder sweetheart neckline covered with floral shaped appliqus. Two flowers sat in the center of each of her short puffed sleeves. The full skirt was intensified by sequined and pearled appliqus. An extensive hemline lace, rich with sequins and pearls, completed the dramatic look of the chapel length train. Her headpiece was adorned with delicate ivory porcelain flowers. The bride carried a trailing bouquet of white and pink roses accompanied by baby's breath, pearls, and netting.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Pagans, Jr., and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Beason, Mr. James R. Pagans, and the late Doris Pagans. The bride is a graduate of Northside High School, and a senior at Virginia Tech. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger E. Vest, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Vest of Floyd, Virginia, and CM Sgt. (Retired) and Mrs. Frank Bolinski of Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania. The groom is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Virginia Tech.

Miss Kimberly Green, Miss Carrie Green, and Miss Karen Fisher, friends of the bride, attended guestbooks and served.

The newlyweds will reside in Roanoke.
