ROBERTSON GOLFERS TRY AGAIN TODAY

Monday's scheduled 18-hole qualifier at Roanoke Country Club for the 13th Scott Robertson Memorial junior golf tournament was washed out by rain.

A special nine-hole qualifier will start at 7 a.m. today, bumping the start of the first round of the tournament back about two hours. Eighty-four players will be competing for the tournament's final 22 spots in the boys' 15-18 division.

The field for the 54-hole tournament that runs through Thursday at RCC is the strongest in the event's history. Some 25 state champions, six international players and two Cannon Cup participants are among the participants.

The girls' field is particularly stout, as three of the nation's top-ranked players are on hand. Jessica Belskis of Worthington, Ohio, was listed No.5 in the country in the Aug.4 Golfweek rankings. Angela Jerman of Columbus, Ga., was ranked sixth, while Lauren Jeski of Tampa Bay, Fla., was ranked No.11.

The featured boys' 15-18 field is headed by 1994-95 Ohio State champion Andrew Sanders and 1996 Buick Junior Open winner Larry Nuger of Long Meadow, Mass.

Top local entries in the boys' 15-18 class include Jacob Jarrett, Jason Orlando, Tommy Lesperance, Brandon LaCroix and Josh Points. Lee Taylor of the host club tops the local entries in the boys' 13-14 division.
