Three new principals will be heading three Pulaski County elementary schools in the 1996-97 school year.
Ron VanSise, who had been assistant principal at Pulaski Middle School since 1991, will become principal at Newbern Elementary School. A Virginia Tech graduate who also holds a master's degree in administration, VanSise has been teaching since 1973 in county high and middle schools.
Joe Reed, who has taught in Pulaski County since 1970 except for one year in another locality, will be Northwood Elementary's new principal. A graduate of Saint Paul College, he holds a master's degree in education from Radford University as well as an endorsement in elementary education. He has taught at Dublin Elementary and Dublin Middle Schools.
Harold Malcolm, who has taught at the county's now-closed Jefferson Elementary and Pulaski Middle School, will be Draper Elementary principal. He is a graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Pikeville (Ky.) College, and holds a master's in elementary education from Radford University.
The county School Board announced the selection of the three men following a closed session last week. They had been recommended from applicants interviewed by a 10-member committee including school administrative staff, School Board members, principals, teachers and parents.
