PUBLIC PULSE MEETINGS AT A GLANCE:

The Radford City Council approved a 75-cent increase in the average residential water bill per 5,000 gallons used to cover renovation costs for the water treatment plant. The monthly bill would increase from $9.95 a month to $10.70.

Also Monday, City Council approved upgrading the Radford University Emergency Medical Services license to a shock-trauma nontransport agency. The upgrade would allow certified shock technicians to provide more advanced care to patients. The license must now be approved by the state.

The Montgomery County School Board spent five hours behind closed doors Monday, and created a new position afterward.

The board agreed to an assistant principal position that would focus on dropout prevention and returning dropouts to school. The position will include kindergarten through 12th grade, and cover the entire county.

Also after the extensive executive session, the board agreed to readmit a student expelled this spring, provided the student stay at Independence Secondary.

Upcoming:

Dublin Town Council will look at a proposed master plan for its Town Center park, landscaping and pedestrian circulation at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Town Center, on the former Burlington Industries property acquired by the town, will be the site of a new town hall, post office and several businesses.
