SUSPECT IN VINTON KILLINGS GETS ATTORNEY

A Roanoke County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday appointed lawyer Mac Doubles to represent Earl Bramblett, 54, who is charged with murdering a Vinton couple and their two daughters.

Doubles, whose office is in Salem, is expected to work with a co-counsel on the case, but a partner has not yet been appointed.

Blaine and Teresa Hodges and their children - Winter, 11, and Anah, 3 - were found dead in their East Virginia Avenue home the morning of Aug. 29, 1994. The Hodgeses' home had been set on fire. Teresa Hodges had been strangled. The other family members had been shot in the head.

Bramblett, who was a close friend of theirs, was arrested July 30 in Spartanburg, S.C., where he had been living for two years. He is charged with capital murder, three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of use of a firearm and arson. He is being held without bond in the Roanoke County-Salem Jail.
