The Virginia Power Electronics Center at Virginia Tech is now under a $700,000, three-year contract from Westinghouse/NAVY to develop a prototype for Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES). VPEC will build a SMES power conditioning system using state-of-the-art devices that will store electrical energy in bulk.
