Roanokers with concerns about race relations have one more chance to express them to the city's Community Relations Task Force. It holds the last in a series of meetings at 7 tonight at Patrick Henry High School.
The first three hearings brought forth only 20 speakers - two on Aug.6 at Oakland Elementary School in Northeast Roanoke, 15 last Thursday at William Fleming High School in Northwest Roanoke and three Monday night at Fallon Park Elementary School in Southeast Roanoke. Speakers expressed concerns about under-equipped parks in black neighborhoods, a consultant's suggestion that the city close the historic Gainsboro library, housing discrimination, and about the need for a permanent task force.
