The Rev. Andy Harold Rice Sr. will begin as pastor of Mineral Springs Baptist Church near Vinton later this month. A recent graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Rice is 37. Reared in the Lynchburg area, he is also a graduate of Amherst High School and Liberty University. His pastoral experience includes service at a church at Evington. He and his wife, Beth, have two sons, A.J. and Jonathan. Rice succeeds the Rev. Dr. A.S. "Chip" Corbin , who went to a Florida church in March.

Ronny Clark has joined the staff of Salem Church of Christ as its youth minister. Clark, who will be married Sept. 21 to Sharon Smith, will work with ministers Brian Orahood and Jim Herron. |MUSICAL EVENTS| A Back to School Blowout is scheduled Aug. 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Baptist Book Store featuring DJs Mark and Mark from the Live Wire Christian radio show. The event is open especially to teens and church youth workers.

New Grace, a Southern gospel group, will perform Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Tabernacle of Love, 4535 Bonsack Road.

Valley Christian Center, 4265 Cloverdale Road, will present a Christian music celebration Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Performing will be J. Hartman of Higher Calling Ministries and the Wings of Faith Band. An offering will be taken .

Spirit and Reality, a conference led by Gerrit Gustafson and Randy Rothwell of Integrity Hosanna! Music, is scheduled Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. at Valley Word Ministries, 1928 Loch Haven Drive. Cost is $15 per person, or $25 per couple. A music ministers' luncheon, for which reservations are needed, is planned Sept. 6. Call 562-1500 for more information.

Rockingham Court United Methodist Church, 4615 Bryan Road S.E., plans a mountain gospel program Friday at 7 p.m. It will feature Bill and Laurie Sky, who have performed folk music on national television and the screen. They are based in Nashville, Tenn. |OUTREACH| Summer Enrichment, an ecumenical day camp for children of elementary school age living in Southwest Roanoke, attracted 75 youngsters when it was held in July at West End United Methodist Church. The free daily sessions were also supported with money and volunteers from Greene Memorial United Methodist, Calvary Baptist, Second Presbyterian, St. John's Episcopal, Christ Episcopal and Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic parishes. Food and supplies also were bought with some private grants.

A Haitian school on the island community of Papaye graduated 27 students the past term with the aid of donations from Our Lady of Nazareth's congregation. In appreciation, the director of the school sent a handcrafted sculpture, which is displayed at the church. Nazareth has had the school as a mission project for several years.

Three mission trips have been completed by youth volunteers from Vinton Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Kevin Meadows. In early July, eight teens and adults worked in the East Tennessee communities of Lafollette, Oliver Springs, Clinton and Lake City, assisting needy people. Later, 15 people spent several days in mission service in Savannah, Ga. On July 20, another team of 15 carried on a ministry of evangelism and other aid in Managua, Nicaragua, a mission site in which Vinton Baptists have been engaged for several years. |REVIVAL MEETINGS| Mountain View Baptist Church, Virginia 779 in the Catawba Valley, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a homecoming Aug. 25 beginning at 11 a.m. A potluck lunch and an afternoon music program will follow. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Rick Via, a Southern Baptist evangelist. He also will conduct revival services Aug. 26 through 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The Rev. Steve Smith, a St. Louis pastor, will conclude revival services tonight at 7:30 at Church of the Harvest, 5530 Williamson Road.

A Children's Crusade, led by Henry and Paula Buckland, will conclude Friday at 7 p.m. at New Life Temple, a Pentecostal Holiness church at 5745 Airport Road.

Emmanuel Baptist Church, 625 Churchland Road N.W., has scheduled evangelistic services Sunday through Wednesday with the Rev. Charles Grasty of Neches, Texas, as guest preacher. Services will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. during the week. |SPECIAL EVENTS| Christian education training, sponsored ecumenically, will be offered through 12 workshops at Second Presbyterian Church on Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. For workers with both children and adults, the workshops include new ways of telling Bible stories, group dynamics, a worship service for children, dramas for youth, recreational ministry, puppetry and songs from the Bible. The conference cost of $10 includes lunch. Registration is needed by Sept. 20; call 343-3659 for more information.

Christ Lutheran Church, 2011 Brandon Ave. S.W., has scheduled contemporary worship for Sunday mornings for the remainder of August. The schedule includes "gathering songs" at 9:15 a.m., followed by Communion with new hymns and liturgical music at 9:30 and fellowship time at 10:30. On Sept. 1, the usual schedule of 8:30 and 11 a.m. services will resume.

Women's Aglow, Roanoke Valley Day Chapter, will hear Lonnie Parks of Roanoke at its meeting Wednesday at the Sheraton Inn-Airport. The luncheon program begins at 11 a.m. Call 362-4849 for reservations for the $7.50 meal. Aglow is for women of charismatic Christian preference.

A Southeast Harvest Festival will take place in Jackson Park on Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. under sponsorship of Presbyterian, United Methodist, Baptist, Disciples of Christ and Churches of the Brethren, who are cooperating in ministries for the neighborhood. A softball game will begin at 9 a.m. Free food, singing, games and other entertainment are on the agenda.

Belmont United Methodist Church has scheduled its annual homecoming day for Sept. 29. The parish is 105 years old. Reservations for the $5 catered meal are needed by Sept. 15; call 343-0048.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1887 Electric Road S.W., is enrolling toddlers for its Mother's Day Out program. It is in session from 9 to noon each Wednesday and is for children 15 months to 2 years. Cost is $36 monthly. Call 774-8746.
