COMMERCIAL VEHICLES DEFINED BY VINTON

A truck or commercial vehicle now has a legal definition in Vinton.

Town Council has amended its zoning ordinance in an effort to avoid confusion.

Under the revision, Vinton deems a truck or commercial vehicle to weigh more than 5,000 pounds or be designed to have more than two rear wheels, and be used for carrying freight or more than 10 passengers.

The revision became necessary recently when town officials attempted to prevent a resident from regularly parking a commercial vehicle in a residential neighborhood. It was discovered that a commercial vehicle was not clearly defined in the ordinance.

Pickup trucks are exempt from this provision.
