It's almost time to climb onto the big yellow school bus again, and school officials want to remind pupils how to have a safe ride:
* Parents should accompany their child to and from the bus stop for the first few times. Arrive in the morning a few minutes early, just in case.
* If students have to cross the street, they should wait for the driver's signal. Always cross in front of the bus, never behind.
* Until a child learns which stop is his, parents should pin a note to his clothes with the bus number and stop.
* While riding the bus, pupils should stay in their seats, keep the aisle clear and never stick anything out the windows - especially heads or hands.
* If a child drops something while getting on or off the bus, he should leave it and wait for permission from the driver to go back and pick it up.
* If a student needs to ride a different bus, parents must send a note to school to be approved by the principal.
Look for Montgomery County bus routes in Sunday's paper. Bus routes for Radford schools will be published in Current on Aug. 25.
