Pulaski church celebrates 108 years of ministry
The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pulaski will celebrate its 108th anniversary of ministry with a homecoming Sunday. Worship is at 10:30 a.m., followed by fellowship meal. This year's theme is "Blest Be the Tie that Binds," taken from the hymn.
Members will be reunited with several past members of the congregation, including the Rev. Allan Wertz of Savannah, Ga.; Mary Ann Wertz Shealy of Columbia, S.C.; and the Rev. John Wertz of Aiken, S.C. The three are the daughter and sons of the late Rev. and Mrs. Lester Wertz who served the church during World War II, in 1942-44, when the congregation went by the name of Woman's Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Allan Wertz will preach; Shealy will be the guest organist; and Pastor John Wertz will conduct the worship service.
Others in attendance will be Carolyn Brockmeyer Willaman, daughter of Dr. Milton and the late Elva Brockmeyer, who will be a guest soloist for the worship service.
As part of the celebration, Trinity will honor those who have been members for more than 50 years. A musical group made up of church members will unveil a song written for the occasion by Judy Casteele. For information, call Emma Gallimore at 980-5044 or the Rev. Terrie Sternberg at 980-3624.
The 13th annual Page's Meeting House Camp Meeting will be Sunday to Wednesday in Radford. The Rev. Grady C. Winegar, superintendent of the Wytheville District of the United Methodist Church, will be the preacher. Winegar is a former pastor of the Floyd United Methodist Church (1969-75). The Rev. Charles Burnette, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville, will be the song leader/soloist for the Camp Meeting.
The Camp Meeting will feature special music at each service by choirs from area United Methodist churches. Pre-service musical programs will precede each service with the Pulaski-Dublin Children's Music Camp. The Dublin United Methodist Youth Choir will perform Tuesday at "Youth Night" at 6:45 p.m. A gospel quartet from Central United Methodist Church in Radford will perform Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
A children's ministry has been added to this year's Camp Meeting. Children ages 4-11 can participate in activities and storytelling. A nursery for children through age 3 also will be available each night at 6:30 p.m. at the Morgan's Chapel United Methodist Church on New River Road, Radford.
The Page's Meeting House Camp Meeting is sponsored by the United Methodist Churches in Pulaski, Floyd and Montgomery counties and the City of Radford. The Page's Meeting House Camp Meeting is located on Hickman Cemetery Road.
