CELEBRATIONS - ENGAGEMENTS

Cantor-Blumenfeld

Ramon and Flora Cantor of Roanoke announce the engagement of their daughter, April Grace Cantor, to Barry Hunter Blumenfeld. The two met while studying at American University in Washington, D.C. Miss Cantor is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, has a B.A. cum laude in Communications from American University and is now a professional actress in the D.C. area. Mr. Blumenfeld, son of Mimi and Jack Blumenfeld, is a native of Miami, Fla. He is currently working on his M.A. in Dance at American University, where he is also an adjunct professor as well as an actor and dancer.

The couple got engaged in Venice, Italy on June 2nd. Mr. Blumenfeld proposed to Miss Cantor while sailing on a gondola at sunset, overlooking the famous San Marco Square. The wedding will take place next summer in D.C.

Evans-Talley

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Evans, Vero Beach, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Lynn Evans, to Dr. M. Christopher Talley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Talley of Roanoke.

Miss Evans is a graduate of Vero Beach High School and holds a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida. She is currently practicing orthopedic hand therapy at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Dr. Talley holds a degree in chemistry from Washington & Lee University. He graduated from the University of Virginia College of Medicine and the University of Florida Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program. He is currently completing a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. The couple plan to marry in July 1997 in Vero Beach, Fla.

Fitzpatrick-Waldo

Elizabeth Ann Fitzpatrick and Adam Waldo are engaged and plan to be married on October 4, 1996, at the Eagle Ridge Inn in Galena, Illinois. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fitzpatrick, Jr., of Wheaton, Illinois. She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. degree and of the Notre Dame Graduate School of Business with an M.B.A. degree. She is employed as a Finance Manager with Frito-Lay, Inc., Dallas, Texas. He is a son of Dr. Gary M. Waldo and Beverly T. Waldo, both of Roanoke. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.A. degree and of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management with an M.B.A. degree. He is employed as a Securities Analyst in the Equities Research Department of Morgan Stanley, Inc. in New York City.

Mooneyham-Crouch

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mooneyham of Roanoke County and Mr. and Mrs. Riley Crouch of Huddleston, are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Sharon Lynola, to Mr. Randy Lee Crouch.

Ms. Mooneyham is also the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Staley Hutton of Roanoke and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Mooneyham of Moneta.

Mr. Crouch is a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oakie Lee Foutz of Bedford, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Crouch of Bedford County.

The couple was educated in Bedford County Schools and Mr. Crouch is employed by Precision Fabrics in Vinton.

The couple is planning a May 10, 1997 wedding.

Nahil-McClung

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Nahil, East Dennis, Massachusetts are pleased to announce the engagement and coming marriage of their daughter, Kaitlin Murphy Nahil, Danville, Virginia, to Jeffrey Allen McClung, also of Danville, Virginia.

Miss Nahil is the granddaughter of Mrs. Charles J. Nahil of Methuen, Massachusetts, and Mrs. Augustine A. Murphy of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Mr. McClung is the son of Mrs. Joan McClung, Roanoke, Virginia, and the late Steven A. McClung. He is the grandson of Mrs. Gladys Young, Crumpler, West Virginia.

A native of North Andover, Massachusetts, the bride is a graduate of St. Augustine's Grammar School, Andover, and Our Lady of Nazareth Academy, Wakefield, Massachusetts. She received a bachelor of science in biology from Roanoke College, Salem, Virginia, and is employed as an Analytical Chemist.

The future groom received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Averett College. He is a Probation/Parole Officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

A late September wedding is planned to be held in St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis, Massachusetts.

Sykes-Smith

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Sykes of Westminster, S.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth (Beth), to Kevin Smith of Wallahalla, S.C. The wedding will be October 26, 1996.

Tarta-Balsley

Heather A. Tarta and Joel E. Balsley are engaged and planning to be married on July 12, 1 997 in Vinton. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Tarta of Vinton. She was graduated from William Byrd High School and Radford University-M.S. '95. She is employed by the Bedford County Public School System. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. David M. Balsley of Staunton. He was graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and Radford University-B.S. '95. He is employed by Haley Toyota.

Thomas-Snider

Michelle Ann Thomas and Edgar Howard Snider III are engaged and planning to be married on April 26, 1997, in Pensacola, Fla. Miss Thomas is the daughter of Ms. Bette Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thomas, Pensacola, Fla. She graduated from Escambia High School; the University of West Florida (Undergraduate); and St. Louis University (Physician Assistant Program). She is employed by Family Health Center, Lake City, Fla. Mr. Snider is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar H. Snider, Jr., Blacksburg, Va. He graduated from Walter Hines Page Senior High School and from Emory University. He is employed by Family Health Center, Lake City, Fla.

Walker-France

Crystal Angela Walker and P. Jonathan France are engaged and planning to be married in the Spring of 1997 in Rocky Mount. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Walker, Jr. of Rocky Mount. She was graduated from Franklin County High School 1994, and is employed by Keltech, Inc. of Roanoke. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Posey France of Penhook. He was graduated from Franklin County High School and is attending Virginia Tech.
