CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Arthur anniversary

Mr. & Mrs. W. J. Arthur will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 24 at Sunnybrook Inn on Plantation Rd. The guest will include the coupl es six children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Geraldine (Gerry) Arthur is a long time associate of Sears. William (Sam) Arthur is a retired plaster contractor. The couple was married on July 24, 1946 in the First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Va.

Blades anniversary

Bill and Betty Blades celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 17 at a reception in their home hosted by their children, Steve and Joy Blades, Wirtz, Va., Debbie and Robert Reid, Bob and Sue Ann Blades, Roanoke, Va. They were married June 16, 1946 in Chillicothe, Missouri. She is the former Betty Jean Tucker. He is retired from Norfolk & Western Railway. They have eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Although delayed due to Mr. Blades' open-heart surgery in June, family and friends from Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri, were pleased to both celebrate his recovery and honor their marriage.

Brubaker anniversary

Edward M. and Virginia M. Brubaker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 17, 1996, with a dinner at Steak & Ale Restaurant hosted by their children, for family and friends.

Edward and Virginia were married on July 2, 1946, in Roanoke, Virginia, and are life long residents of Roanoke. Edward retired from Valley Metro bus lines, with over 40 years service, and works part time for Oakey's Funeral Service. Virginia is retired from S.H. Heironimus and works part time for Skyline Cleaners, Inc.

Edward and Virginia are active members of Roanoke's First Baptist Church.

Glass anniversary

Sam and Dorothy Glass celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 17, 1997. The celebration was held at Mason Cove Chapel and hosted by their children and family. The couple was married August 18, 1946. She is the former Dorothy Marie Thomas. The couple's children are Rita Goodbar of Troutville, Sharon Whetzel of Roanoke, and Allan Glass of Salem. They have four grandchildren. They both retired from Stuart McGuire.

Lynch anniversary

James H. and Ann Ballentine Lynch celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 14, 1996. The celebration was held at The First United Methodist Church in Salem. It was hosted by their nine children.

Scaggs anniversary

Mr. & Mrs. Charles Emory Scaggs were honored with a lovely reception celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg, by their son and his wife, Stephen and Vickie, and grandsons, Ashby and Nathaniel of Midlothian, Va. and the couple's daughter, Connie, of Radford, Va.|

The couple was married June 22, 1946 at the home of the home of the bride's parents.

Over 200 guest gathered to help celebrate this happy occasion.|

Mr. Scaggs retired after 38 years from Bell Atlantic. Mrs. Scaggs, the former Marie Epperly, retired from a nursing career of 23 years.

They are both active in church and volunteer work.

Waldron anniversary

Ralph and Lucille Waldron celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 11, 1996. The celebration was held at Bedford Baptist Church and was hosted by their daughters. The couple was married August 10, 1946, in Bedford, Va. Their children are Debbie Carter and son-in-law David Carter, Roanoke, and Jan Waldron, Oregon City, Oregon. They have two grandchildren and are both retired.
