CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS II

Mayson-Morgan

Hilary Lee Morgan and James Dudley Mayson were married August 17, 1996 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Ivy, Va. Rector H. Miller Hunter officiated. A reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Bryan.

The maid of honor was Miss Tracy P. Morgan, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Catherine Sewell, Lyn Rushton, Tatia Daniels, Megan Tribble, Sandra Higgins, Michelle Adams, Jeannette Smith, and Nancy Reed Huston. Flowergirl was Hannah Huston. Mistresses of ceremony were Mrs. Phillip H. McClure and Mrs. John L. Kidde.

The best man was Dr. Preston B. Mayson, father of the groom. Ushers were John Giles, Jr., Brooks Mayson, George Cartledge, III, Doug Kollme, Britton Neal, Todd Morgan, and Tyler Sewell. Guestbook attendant was Mrs. John R. Ragsdale, III.

The bride's gown was ivory silk with a fitted bodice of guipure lace. She carried a bouquet of white and peach roses and white lilies.

The bride is a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Walter Edward Morgan, III. of Wintergreen, Va. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., with a B.A. and M.A. in English. She is employed by the University of Virginia.

The bridegroom, son of Dr. and Mrs. Preston Brooks Mayson of Roanoke, Va., is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, Farmville, Va. He is employed by Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceuticals.

The newlyweds will live in Ivy, Va. after the wedding trip to London, Scotland, and Grand Cayman.

Myers-Hudson

The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Anne Hudson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hudson of Richmond, to Stewart Davidson Myers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edgar Myers of Roanoke, took place August 17, 1996 at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Richmond.

The Reverend D. Donald Dunn III officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Joseph Sassin and the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bernard Hudson, all of Roanoke. The groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tony Stewart and the late Mr. and Mrs. Guy Arnold Myers, all of Winston-Salem, NC.

Miss Kristen Anne Baum of Waynesboro was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Anna Moriah Myers of Roanoke, sister of the groom, Miss Ashlyn Brook Robertson and Miss Ellen Blair Robertson of Charlotte, NC, cousins of the groom. Miss Emma Kathleen Simpkins of Spottsylvania, cousin of the bride, was flower girl.

Mr. Thomas Edgar Myers of Roanoke was his son's best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Thomas Edgar Myers, Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC, brother of the groom, Mr. William Joseph Hudson of Richmond, brother of the bride and Mr. Aaron Keeley Michalove of Winston-Salem, cousin of the groom. Mr. Michael Gennaro of Manhattan and Mr. Stephen Allen Young of Columbus, Oh were ushers.

Readers were Mr. Robert Peace of New York and Miss Erica Yowell of Chapel Hill, NC.

The reception was held at the Branch House.

The bride is a graduate of Mills E. Godwin High School and the College of William and Mary. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in art history at Virginia Commonwealth University. The groom is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and the College of William and Mary. He is employed as a musician.

After a honeymoon in Isle of Palms, SC, the couple will reside in Richmond.

Oldham-Blount

Donna Lynn Blount and Ronald Lawrence Oldham, Jr. were married on August 17, 1996, at Oakland Baptist Church. Rev. Kelly Dampeer officiated. The reception was held in the fellowship hall.

Matron of honor was Rebecca Grubbs, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Elisa Shifflett, friend of the bride, Melissa Blount, sister-in-law of the bride, and Rebecca Oldham, sister of the groom.

The best man was Robert Oldham, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Jon Lewis, Gus Malley, friends of the groom, and Doug Blount, brother of the bride.

Photography was by Jim Markey. Flowers were done by Helen Whiteside, owner of Floral Elegance.

The bride is the daughter of Brenda and Paul Blount of Vinton, Va. She is a graduate of William Byrd High School and currently is attending Virginia Tech, where she is a senior. She is employed by Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Lawrence, Sr. of Nampa, Idaho. He is employed at Catawba Cabinet Co.

The couple will reside in Christiansburg after a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Poff-Pierce

Jane Minyard Pierce and Phillip Lynwood Poff were united in marriage at four o'clock in the afternoon on July 27, 1996 at the Chateau Morrisette winery on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. The Rev. Roy Turpin officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Minyard of Salem. She is a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and received her B.S. degree from Roanoke College. She is employed by Organon Pharmaceutical Company.

The groom is a son of Thelma Conner Poff of Salem, and the late J. Lynwood Poff. He is a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School. He received an Associate degree from V.W.C.C., a B.S. degree from Radford University and a Master's degree from VPI&SU. He is an Assistant Principal with the Franklin County School system.

Honor attendants were Jennifer Elizabeth Pierce and Emily Nicole Pierce, daughters of the bride. Best man was Dennis Michael Poff of Asheville, N.C., brother of the groom.

The bride wore an ivory crepe gown designed by Jessica McClintock. The sleeveless sheath gown features a sweetheart neckline accented by Passemeterie. The back is highlighted with open Passemeterie. She carried a bouquet of orchids, tea roses and calla lilies.

The groom personally selected music for the wedding and reception. A special selection of Van Morrison's ``Someone Like You'' played as the bride walked down the aisle.

Immediately following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a social hour with light hors d'oeuvres and wine tasting after which dinner was served.

Pre-wedding celebrations included a party hosted by Mrs. Shelby Hamlet of Club Lane, and Mrs. Ann McDade of Cedar Grove, N.C., long-time friends of the groom's family. Karen Minyard of Macon, Ga., and Leanne Banks of Richmond, Va., sisters of the bride, hosted a family reception at Hidden Valley County Club the night prior to the wedding.

The couple will spend the remainder of the summer settling into their new home in the Roanoke area and look forward to a honeymoon in October.

The bride and groom would like to thank their families for their never ending love and support.

Prillaman-Smith

Kristi Renae Smith and Ronald Eddie Prillaman were married June 1, 1996, at 4:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Pearisburg, Va., by the Rev. Eddie Kendall. The reception was held at the church.

The matron of honor was Jennifer Pfister, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Tracy Sewell, friend of the bride, and Erika Smith, sister of the bride. Flower girl was Megan Spencer, niece of the groom.

Best man was Nelson Lee Prillaman, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Brian Black well and Darrin Prillaman, friends of the groom. Ring bearer was Brad Spencer, nephew of the groom.

The wedding was directed by Renee Chandler and Emily Oliver, friends of the family. The guest book was attended by Barbara Waller, also a friend of the family. Halona Skinnell, cousin of the bride, was program attendant. Music was provided by Arlou Borillo, friend of the bride.

The bride, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents and grandmother, wore an elegant princess style gown of white satin. The bodice was of Venice lace, pearls and sequins, and formed a sweetheart neckline and short sleeves. The semi-full skirt was of satin, and the train extended to chapel length. The headpiece was a tiara of pearls and silk flowers with a pouf at the back. Veiling extended to fingertip length.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eria A. Smith of Pearisburg. She graduated from Giles High School and Radford University and is employed in Martinsville.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Lee Prillaman, Sr., of Rocky Mount, Va. He graduated from Franklin County High School and Radford University and is employed by the State Corporation Commission.

After a wedding trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, Ron and Kristi are now residing in Martinsville, Va.

Robinson-Stoll

Deidre Maeve Stoll and David Lawrence Robinson were united in marriage at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, Saturday, July 6, 1996 at Christ Church, West River, Maryland. The Rev erend Edward Pritts from Grace Episcopal Church, Merchantville, New Jersey, officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry T. Stoll of Harwood, Maryland. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Denis O'Donnell and the late Mr. Denis O'Donnell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mr. Joseph F. Stoll and the late Mrs. Joseph Stoll of Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl L. Robinson of Roanoke, Virginia. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Ketner of Schenectady, New York and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence R. Robinson of Sackets Harbor, New York.

The bride was attended by Christy K. Stoll, sister of the bride, from Annapolis, Maryland. The bridesmaids were Laura Bach of West River, Maryland, Jennifer Kates of New Carrollton, Maryland, friends of the bride; Nora Robinson of Richmond, Virginia, and Sarah Robinson of Roanoke, Virginia, sisters of the groom. The flowergirl was Paige Wexler Dougherty of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, cousin of the groom.

Douglas M. Robinson of Lafayette, Indiana, brother of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were Earl L. Robinson of Roanoke, Virginia, father of the groom; Jared Jamison, Christopher Partin and Christopher O'Neil of Roanoke, Virginia, friends of the groom.

Mrs. Daniel Jaycox of Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., and Mrs. Scott Hill of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, cousins of the bride, were the readers of scripture.

The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at Chart House, Eastport, Maryland.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the historic Governor Calvert House, Annapolis, Maryland.

The bride is a graduate of South High School, Harwood, Maryland and Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia. The groom is a graduate of Cave Spring High School, Roanoke, Virginia, and Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia.

After a six week tour of the United States, the couple will reside in Annapolis, Maryland.

Smith-Dye

Jennifer Carlene Dye and Alvin Richard Smith (Rick) were married August 3, 1996, at Calvary Memorial Church in Roanoke. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Larry Eenigenburg and the bride's father Reverend Stephen Dye.

Jennifer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen L. Dye of Roanoke. Rick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin H. Smith of Troutville. Jennifer was given in marriage by her father.

The maid of honor was Lisa Dye, sister of the bride of Roanoke. Stacey Linger-Butler of Blacksburg was the matron of honor. Kelli James of Fairfax served as bridesmaid and Asia Toliver of Roanoke was the flower girl.

The best man was Ty Smith, brother of the groom of Salem. Groomsmen included Randy Burrell of Fincastle, ``cousin'' of the groom; and Jerry Jackson of Roanoke. Ushers included Eric Burrell, cousin of the groom, and Joseph Dye, brother of the bride, both of Roanoke.

A program of wedding music was presented by Maxine Wiley, who served as both organist and pianist. Solos were performed by Edith Morgan. Accompanying pianist was Vina Wiggins. The prayer was done by the Rev. P. L. Barrett. The guest book was attended by Jessica Goorskey. Hostesses included Tammy Brown, Tia Brown, Neri Jenkins and Alicia Nutter. The wedding directors were Marion Howard and Stacie Wright. Wedding portraits by Kevin Hurley.

The reception was held in the ballroom at the Sheraton Inn. Music was provided by Maurice Wright.

Jennifer is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Virginia Tech and is employed as a service associate for Jostens Publishing Company. Rick is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and Virginia Tech and is employed as a surveillance officer for the Roanoke City 23A Court Service Unit, Department of Juvenile Justice.

The bride wore an off the shoulder, formal length gown of white satin with scalloped lace, embellished with seed pearls and sequins. She carried a bouquet of white roses, lilies of the valley and baby's breath.

After a honeymoon to Florida and the Bahamas, the couple will make their home in Salem.

St.Clair-Waybright

Jennifer Claire Waybright and Timothy Shane St.Clair were married on August 17, 1996 at Huntington Court United Methodist Church. Dr. M. Douglas Newman and Dr. Alton M. Washington officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride wa s escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. The matron of honor was Marlene St.Clair, sister-in-law of the groom, of Roanoke. Melissa Jones, friend of the bride, also of Roanoke, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Michelle Kennedy of Crimora, Va., Ellen Pugh of Roanoke, and Monica Schultz of Fairfax, Va., all friends of the bride. Kaylie St. Clair, niece of the groom, was a junior bridesmaid, and Whitney Gray, friend of the bride, was the flowergirl; both are of Roanoke.

Randy St.Clair of Roanoke served as his brother's best man. Head groomsman was Lewis St.Clair of Goodview, Va., father of the groom. Groomsmen were Dwayne St.Clair, brother of the groom, Chad Waybright, brother of the bride, and Richard Eary, friend of the groom, all of Roanoke. The ringbearer was Max St.Clair, of Roanoke, nephew of the groom.

Wedding music was provided by Pat Breeden, organist, and Joanne Allison, pianist. Boyd Shaver and Melissa Jones were soloists. Handbell chimers were Alicia Neely and Allison Shank. The guest book was attended by Megan Draper, niece of the groom. Loretta Edge served as the wedding director. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Holiday Inn-Airport; Jeannie Whitecotton and Dorothy Ratcliff, aunts of the bride, were hostesses.

The bride is the daughter of Charles and Nancy Waybright of Roanoke. She is a graduate of William Fleming High School and CITY School and the University of Virginia, School of Nursing. She is employed by Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The groom is the son of Shirley Livengood of Roanoke and Lewis St.Clair of Goodview, Va. He is a graduate of William Fleming High School and James Madison University. He is an accountant for the Carilion Health System.

Following a wedding trip to Cancun, the couple will reside in Roanoke.

Sweetenberg-Doggett

Angelia Raychelle Doggett of Columbus, N. C., and Timothy Edward Sweetenberg of Roanoke, Va., were married at 3 p.m. July 6 a t Union Grove Baptist Church in Columbus, N. C.

The Rev. Gary Sherman and Rev. Herman Word officiated. A dinner reception was held at Forest City's American Legion Hut.

Mrs. Sweetenberg, daughter of Billy and Annette Doggett of Columbus, N. C., graduated from R.S. Central High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N. C. She is employed as a fifth grade teacher in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

Mr. Sweetenberg, son of Ernest and Norma Sweetenberg of Roanoke, Va., and grandson of Thomas and Christine Taylor of Hardy, Va., graduated from Northside High School in Roanoke, Va. He attended Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va., as a Communication Major. He is now employed at General Electric in Salem, Va.

Teloria Sutton of Greensboro, N. C., was the maid of honor. Cassandra Whiteside of Inman, S. C., was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Theresa Doggett and Renee Doggett, sisters of the bride; Rhonda Hale and Renee Childress, sisters of the groom; Charrondia Dobson, Barrondia Smallwood and Calvina Wilkins, cousins of the bride; Sophia Sweetenberg, cousin of the groom.

Child attendants were Candace Cannon and Lorenzo Cannon, honorary attendants. Kurrae Hale was the flower girl, and Kristopher Hale was the ring bearer.

Mickey Hardy of Roanoke, Va., was the best man. Groomsmen included Angelo Hardy, Antonio Hardy, Al Newman, Ralph Wright, Charles Sweetenberg, Jr., Mark Sweetenberg, Ron Lewis, Richard Taylor, and Henry Beck. Ushers were Todd Doggett, Roy Wilkins, Jr., LeRone Moore, and Tony Wooten.

Special soloists, Ruth Taylor of Rocky Mount, Va., Nikki Staples of Roanoke, Va., and Gary Sherman, Jr., of Forest City, N. C.

Hostesses were Tina Brown of Salem, Va., Caroline Cannon of Landrum, S. C., Latesha Doggett of Tryon, N. C., Gina Lyons of Battleboro, N. C., Tina Seay of Rocky Mount, and Katrell Duberry of Forest City, N. C.

After a 7-day Caribbean cruise, the couple will reside in Roanoke, Va.

Thomas-Luck

Connie Lou Luck and Michael Lynn Thomas were married August 17, 1996 in Fort Hill United Methodist Church, Lynchburg. Rev. John A. Siegle was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held at the Moose Lodge 715.

Donna D. Moore, friend, was the matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Teresa M. Luck, sister-in-law; Mary Messer, Paula Johnson, Jane Miller and Carol McGrath, friends. Alyson Luck, niece of the bride, was the flowergirl. The guestbook attendant was Lynda Steuart.

Eric Miller, friend, served as best man. The ushers were Ken Tapley, RD Couch, Bernard Martin, Mark Stegall and Les Baker, friends. Michael Vaden Thomas, son of the groom, was the ringbearer.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Luck of Montvale, Va. She is a graduate of Liberty High School in Bedford, Va., and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Ruth Hawley Thomas of Roanoke, Va. and Mr. Kenneth Ray Thomas of Blacksburg, Va. He is a graduate of Northside High School in Roanoke, Va., and attended Va. Western Community College in Roanoke, Va.

The bride and groom are both employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

After the wedding trip to Atlantic City, N.J., the newlyweds will live in Lynchburg, Va.

Urbanic-Stanley

The marriage of Wendi Ann Stanley and Michael Joseph Urbanic was held on August 11, 1996 at seven o'clock in the evening at La Maison in Roanoke, Virginia. The Reverend James Fisher officiated.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. The bride wore a gown of white silk shantung designed by Galina. The sleeveless gown featured a scoop neckline and covered buttons down the back. The bodice, skirt and chapel length train were accented with Venise lace. The bride carried a bouquet of cascading ivy, white roses, gardenias and stephanotis.

Matron of honor was Amy Claud o f Roanoke. Laura Wiley of Ashland, Kentucky, and Penny Addair of Ruston, Louisiana, were bridesmaids.

Best man was David Urbanic of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, brother of the groom. Mark Davies of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and Jim Cesen of Ruston, Louisiana, were groomsmen.

Lauren Daley of Pamplico, South Carolina, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl.

Jessica White and Tiffany Daley, of Pamplico, cousins of the bride, were the guestbook attendants and greeters.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Terry Stanley, II of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Radford University and is employed by the Stafford County School System.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph William Urbanic of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Norwin High School and served in the United States Navy for six years. He is currently attending Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia and will graduate in 1997 with a B.A. in History.

After a honeymoon to the Bahamas, the newlyweds will live in Fredericksburg.

Whitlow-O'Dell

Jennifer Leigh O'Dell and William Ray Whitlow were married at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 1996 at Cecil's Chapel in Snowville, Virginia, by Rev. Joe Bryant. The reception followed in the Church Fellowship Hall.

The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, and given in marriage by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip O'Dell. The matron of honor was Jeanette Croteau, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Linda Adkins and Beverley Whitlow, sisters of the groom. Olivia Adkins was flower girl.

Curtis Whitlow was his son's best man. Ken Shelhorse and Jim Sturgil, III, friends of the groom, acted as groomsmen. Jim Sturgil, IV was ringbearer.

The bride is an Electronics student at New River Community College and is employed by Findlay Ind. The groom, son of Curtis Whitlow and the late Betty Whitlow, is employed by WACO, Inc. while enrolled in the Virginia State apprenticeship program at New River.

Kelly Smiley, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. The couple have made their home in Shiloh, Va. and had a wonderful honeymoon trip to Cancun.

The couple would like to express their deepest appreciation to all those involved in the wedding, reception, and all other honoring occasions leading up to and following their special day.

Williams-Vaughn

Florence Denise Vaughn and Allen Damon Williams were married July 27, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. in Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight O. Steele officiating. The reception was held at Holiday Inn Airport. Matron of honor was Mrs. Janice Williams, sister-in-law of the groom. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Cecilia O'Conner, sister of the bride, Mrs. Bertha Pina-Vaughn, sister-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Tomeka Campbell, cousin of the bride, Ms. Retta J. Harris, friend of the bride, Ms. Charlene Mitchell, friend of the bride, Mrs. Janet Watson, cousin of the groom, and Ms. Benita Sanders, cousin of the groom. Flower girl was Ms. Sarah Williams, niece of the groom. Best man was David Ramon Williams, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Mr. Dexter Shears, friend of the groom, Mr. Bradley Sherrod, cousin of the groom, Mr. Gregory Williams and Mr. Duncan Williams, brothers of the groom, Mr. Finney Coleman, friend of the groom, Mr. William Kyle Vaughn, Sr. and Mr. Erik Vaughn, brothers of the bride. Ushers were Mr. Kenneth Poindexter, friend of the groom, and Mr. Robert Sherrod, Jr., cousin of the groom. Ringbearer was Mr. Trey Williams, nephew of the groom. The ushers served as candlelighters. The guestbook was attended by Ms. Jasmine O'Conner and Ms. Angela Waddell. The bride wore a white satin traditional gown adorned in sequins, pearls & lace appliques, featuring a chapel length train. She wore a tierra crown with sequins and pearls attached to the white tulle which draped down her backline. The head piece was designed by Lorretta Nichols of Floyd County. She carried a silk bouquet of Monte Carlo roses, spray roses, sweetheart roses, freesia, stephanotis, baby's breath with a mixture of greenery, wedding pearls and accented with white tulle specially created by Mrs. Mary Waddell. The church was decorated in Beauty and White with satin ribbon with the candelabra draped in white tulle with an arrangement of flowers enhancing the sanctuary.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William K. Vaughn of Floyd, Virginia. She is a graduate of Floyd County High School and ECPI, Roanoke. She is employed by J.C. Penney Company. The bridegroom, son of Mr. & Mrs. Joe G. Williams, Sr. of Roanoke, is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. He is employed by Western Carolina University. The newlyweds will make their home in Cullowhee, N.C.
