The Consumer Price Index, the nation's primary measure of inflation, stood at 157 points at the end of July. That was up 0.19 percent - or 0.3 percent after seasonal adjustment - from 156.7 at the end of June. The figure also compares with 152.5 a year ago and 148.4 in July 1994.
That means goods and services that cost $148.40 two years ago had a price tag of $152.50 in July 1995 and $157 last month.
Those figures are based on using an average for the years of 1982-84 as a base of 100. If the Department of Labor Statistics still used 1967 as a base year, the index would be 470.4. That means that goods and services costing $100 in 1967 would have cost $470.40 last month.
