ADKINS, Delphine Hairston, was called home on Saturday, August 17, 1996. She was born on December 11, 1919 in Cascade, Va., the daughter of the late Joe Riley and Nancy Tate Hairston. She was the youngest of 13 brothers and one sister, all who preceded her in death. Delphine became a Christian early in life. She was a member of Bibleway Pentecostal Apostolic Church, where she served on the Senior Choir and Pastor's Aide Committee. She was united in marriage with Jim Henry Adkins on December 26, 1939. Of this union, there were six children and one adopted son. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Reynolds Cobbs. She is survived by her husband, Jim Adkins; five children, Cecelia Adkins Childress, Annie A. (Barry) Gary, Elder Joe J. (Susie) Adkins, Shirley B. (Johnny) Neal, Brenda I. (Harvey) Davis, Michael J. Hairston; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nine sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a special friend, Madline Childress. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Bibleway Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Elder R. K. Ingram officiating. Burial in Williams Memorial Park. CONNER, Ruth Clower, 83, of Salem, passed away Sunday, August 18, 1996. A native of Floyd County, her life was uns elfishly dedicated to raising her children and grandchildren, while also giving and caring for her church and community. Retired from Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley, after 7 years of service, and a member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold R. Conner, and daughter, Eleanor G. Ginder. She is survived by her sons, Clyde E. Conner, Riner, Doug Conner, Salem, Joseph A. Conner, Salem; daughters, Ava L. Ebersole, Mechanicsburg, Penn., Esther C. HALL, George Bogle, 84, of Roanoke, died Sunday, August 18, 1996 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born in El Dorado, Kansas and spent his adult years in Roanoke and Washington, D.C. He was retired as a management analyst for the federal government, and a financial officer and purser for the U.S. Maritime Commission. McGuire, Howard Evans, 75, of Radford, died Sunday, August 18, 1996 in a Roanoke Hospital. He was a retired employee of New River Textiles. MILLS, Charles E. III, 59, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 19, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Smiley Mills; and daughters, Russlyn Mills Seiler of Sausalito, Calif., Ashley Ann Mills of Roanoke. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1961 and received his law degree from the University of North Carolina Law School in 1964, at which time he was admitted to the Virginia Bar. His career combined both the practice of law and business. He was Vice-president and Counsel of Fidelity Bankers Life Insurance Company in Richmond, Vice-president and General Counsel of the North American Group in London, managing Director of the North American Bank in Amsterdam, and the owner of several small businesses. He was a partner in the law firm of Fox & Mills, P.L.C. He was a former member of Hunting Hills CC, Roanoke CC, the Shenandoah Club, the Commonwealth Club and the Everglades Club. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church 1 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 1996. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society, P. O. PRICE, William Powell, (``Bill""), 82, of Boones Mill, died Sunday, August 18, 1996, at South Roanoke Nursing Home. He was born February 14, 1914, in Roanoke; and was preceded in death by his parents, Park Livingston Price Sr. and Allie Lemon Price; and one sister, Ruth Price Dickerson. Mr. Price graduated from Jefferson High School and Hampden-Sydney College and was a veteran of World War II, having served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. His business ventures included Waldrop-Price Hardware, Burroughs Corporation, Blair-Pitzer Coal Company; and he was a highly respected and honored Realtor with Hall Associates, Inc., from which he retired. He was a member of Boones Mill Christian Church, a charter member of Boones Mill Lions Club, a member of Isaacs Lodge #29 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the Roanoke Business Men's Club. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Frances Bernard Price; a daugh ter, Linda F. Price; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynn Price, all of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Christyanna M. Stephens, of Roanoke; a brother, Park Livingston Price Jr. of Sun City West, Ariz.; three nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and his devoted home nurses. Graveside services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., August 21, Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill, with Dr. Harry Y. Gamble and The Rev. Coretha G. Morra officiating. PRUITT, Robert Lee, Jr., 71, of Moneta, died Saturday, August 17, 1996. Born September 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Robert Lee, Sr. and Essie Reynolds Pruit t. He was retired from Lane Furniture Company. Surviving are his wife, Frances Pruitt, of the home; one daughter, Sandra Pruitt of Moneta; three sons and daughter-in-law, Donnie Pruitt of Moneta, Jerry and Frances Pruitt of Glade Hill and Eddie Prutt of Moneta; four sisters, Iva Eames of Moneta, Eva parker of Hardy, Mary Dunford of Dry Fork and Josephine Trammell of Lexington, N.C.; four brothers, Lewis Pruitt of Hardy, Giles Pruitt of Moneta, John Pruitt of Lexington, N.C.. and Clyde Pruitt of Hardy; a special cousin, Randy Pruitt of Chatham; also several nieces and nephews. ROBINSON, Douglas Matthew, Sr., 82, of Blacksburg, died Monday, August 19, 1996, after a long illness, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Juanita Robinson, who died September 8, 1990. He is survived by four children: daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Jack Prater of Blacksburg; son, James L. Robinson of San Francisco, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Matthew Robinson Jr. and Joan of Blacksburg, and daughter, Bertha J. Camper of Blacksburg. He is survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, David Robinson of Blacksburg and Billy Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Thelma Caldwell of Christiansburg, and a beloved cousin, Nell Trent of Blacksburg. Mr. Robinson was retired from Virginia Tech, where he was a long-time lab technician of the Chemistry Department. He was a life-long member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. He was treasurer of Blacksburg Lodge No. 20 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a member for 28 years. He was also a member of Moose Lodge No. 1470 of Montgomery County for 34 years. VARNADO, Gene Alfred, 64, of Wytheville, died Monday, August 19,1996 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi, the son of the late Bill and Vera Mae Herring Veranda. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the DAV, VFW in Oklahoma City and a member of the Mt. Scott Masonic Lodge #540 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pruitt Varnado, of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Varnado, Jeannie and C. Jan Todd, Shayla Ann and John Shockley, all of Oklahoma City, OK; four half sisters, Barbara Nell, Carline, Diane, Virginia; special friend, Wayne Allison of Rt. 3, Wytheville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. WORSHAM, Robert Bertrand, 66, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, August 18,1996 at his residence. Born March 4, 1930 in Covington, Va., he was the son of the late William Edward and Frances Scott Worsham. He had 30 years service in Hotel/Motel Management. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving a 13 month tour in Korea and was attached to the U. S. Marine Corp. for the majority of the time. Upon his return to the states, he attended the University of Virginia. He married Sara Belle Byrd on November 24, 1955 at Holy Comforter Catholic Church in Charlottesville, Va. and began his hotel/motel career. He retired to Hot Springs in 1984. Upon retiring, he enjoyed travel, coin collecting, painting, family genealogy and attending UVA football games. He was a member of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Sara Bell Byrd Worsham, Hot Springs; daughter, Juliana Worsham McLellan, Greenville, S.C.; son, Robert Bertrand Worsham, Jr., Greenville, S.C.; brother, William Edward Worsham, Lewisburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Katherine Connor and William Scott McLellan, both of Greenville, S.C.; six sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; four nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles ``Snookie"" Roy Worsham in 1983 and a niece, Cheryl Lynn Worsham in 1988.
