Small business course
DUBLIN - New River Community College will offer a free course on the basics of starting a small business beginning Thursday. The eight-week course will meet Thursdays from 6 to 8:40 p.m. at NRCC's Edwards Hall, Room 208.

Skate night
CHRISTIANSBURG - Straight Street Family Skate Night at the Dominion Skate Center begins Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A $4 charge will include skate rentals and Straight Street receives $1 from each paid skater. Skate night will also be held on Sept. 5 and 19.
NRCC classes begin
CHRISTIANSBURG - Fall semester classes at New River Community College begin today, but registration will continue through Aug. 27 and can be completed either at the Dublin campus or at Appalachian Hall, 412 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg.

Court of Honor
CHRISTIANSBURG - Boy Scout Troop 348 of Auburn United Methodist Church will hold a Court of Honor on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the church. Troop members will be recognized for their achievements and the public is invited.
Multidiscipline seminar
PEMBROKE - Registration for the Giles Multidiscipline Team fall seminar, "Kinesic Interview Techniques," ends Sept. 18. The Sept. 25 seminar will be held at the Mountain Lake resort and the trainer will be FBI Special Agent Charles McCoy. The $30 cost includes lunch and coffee and must be paid before the seminar.
