Roanoke Electric Steel Corp. of Roanoke is a mini-mill producer of finished steel products. The company said it had expected third-quarter earnings to be down because of a shutdown for the installation of new equipment but that unexpected problems prolonged the shutdown, hurting earnings more than anticipated. Production is now back up to near normal levels and the company said it expects the fourth quarter to be an improvement over the third.
