Hall of Famer dies
Del Miller, one of the most famous figures in harness racing history and perhaps the only professional athlete to compete during eight different decades, is dead at 83.
Miller, who drove from 1929 to 1990, died Monday night in Washington, Pa. He had been ill for several months.
Miller was elected to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 1968, having bred, owned, trained and driven horses. He won the Hambletonian (1950), the Yonkers Trot (1960 and 1974), the Kentucky Futurity (1954) and the Messenger Stakes (1957 and 1960).
Miller drove in 26 Hambletonians, the most of anyone in the 71-year history of the race.
Chris Berman and ABC made it official. The popular ESPN personality will take over the halftime portion of ABC's ``Monday Night Football,'' replacing the team of Brent Musburger and Sports Illustrated's Peter King.
Berman's move continues a developing relationship between ABC and ESPN that is expected to accelerate. The networks share many sports properties and ESPN personalities Robin Roberts, John Saunders and Dick Vitale have active ABC roles.
