ANTHONY, Clarence Edmund Sr., 79, of Route 1, Patrick Springs, died Monday, August 19, 1996, in the Veterans Care Center in Salem after a long illness. A native of Patrick County, he was born July 30, 1917, son of the late John Virgil Anthony Jr. and the late Hallie Ethel Foster Anthony. He was a 1937 graduate of the Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz, a veteran of World War II, and a Deacon at the Critz Baptist Church. He was retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Smith Anthony of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Joy Branham of Eidson, Tenn., and Mrs. Ginny Lynn Alumbaugh of Roanoke; one son, Clarence Edmund ``Ed"" Anthony Jr. of Route 1, Patrick Springs; five brothers, Charles G. and J. Maxwell Anthony, both of Bassett, W. Penn and Douglas M. Anthony, both of Collinsville, and Richard M. Anthony of Martinsville; two sisters, Elizabeth Anthony of Bassett, and Mrs. Hallie Slagle of South Boston; two granddaughters, Rachel Alumbaugh and Adrienne Anthony. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Critz Baptist Church. Burial with military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home in Stuart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Critz Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer's Associati on. BADGER, Bernard A., (Bernie), 63 of Callaway died Monday, August 19, 1996. Bernie was a Korean Veteran and a retiree of General Electric. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth W. Badger; and step-father, Clarence Smith. Surviving are his wife, Roberta (Bobbie) Badger; his mother, Hazel Smith; step-mother, Sally Badger; mother-in-law, Marion Rosenquest; two daughters, Linda Badger and Barbara Badger, Southfield, Mich.; one son and daughter-in-law, Bernard A., Jr. and Helen Badger, Palm Bay, Fla.; five grandchildren, Bethany, B.J., Bobbie, Jean, Ryan, and Brooke Badger; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolly and Wayne Buterbaugh, and Peg and Jim Pinckney; twin brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Badger; two aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. The Family suggests that memorials be made to the Callaway Rescue Squad, Callaway, Va 24067. Memorial services will be held at the residence 11 a.m. Friday. BERRY, David William, 43, of Pig eon Forge, Tenn., died Monday, August 19, 1996, in University of Tennessee Memorial Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn. He was a native of Chilhowie and a former resident of Abingdon. He was a graduate of Chilhowie High School and had attended Emory & Henry College. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Berry. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Shuler Berry, Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; one son, Matthew Fount Berry, Manassas; two stepdaughters, Nicole Loveday, Mendi Carrisales, both of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; his father, Byrum Ray Berry, Abingdon; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael R. and Joan Berry, Bristol, Tenn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Phil Cobble, Knoxville, Tenn.; one stepgrandchild, Logan Prince, Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Chilhowie, with the Rev. Jeff Callahan officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Chilhowie. BEVERLY, Harry Lee, 78, of Salem, died Tuesday, August 20, 1996 in a Salem hospital. He is survived by two sisters, Delphia P. Carroll and Leona B. McDaniel, both of Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Butts Cemetery in Roanoke County with the Rev. John McGraw officiating. DAVIS, Lorene Fitzgerald (``Rosie''), of Buena Vista, died Monday, August 19, 1996, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Born June 1, 1937, in Nelson County, she was the daughter of Sophia Humphreys Fitzgerald of Buena Vista and the late Robert Luther Fitzgerald. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Fitzgerald Jr. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary (Unit 126) and a graduate of Fairfield High School, class of 1955. Rosie was best known for her laughter and love for children. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert Merle Davis of Buena Vista; daughters, Shantel Renee Davis, Raleigh, N.C.; Sabrina Davis Johnson; husband, David N.; and son, Bryce Andrew, all of Frederick, Md.; four sisters, Joyce F. Croushorn, Fairfield, Frances F. Turpin, Coleman Falls, Joanne F. Hudson, Blue Ridge, Jean F. Miller, Buena Vista. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 1996, at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward H. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. FERGUSON, Raymond Thomas, 82, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 18, 1996. He was the son of the late George Thomas Ferguson and Agusta Berta Ferguson. Surviving are his wife, Lillian Hogan Ferguson of Roanoke; a son, Lewis O. Ferguson of Roanoke; two sisters, Audrey Sutphin of Chesapeake and Geneva Mitchell of Lakeland, Fla., and a special friend, Margaret O'Neil of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 1996, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Marion Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. JONES, Ernest T. , 69 of Bedford, Va departed this life on August 19, 1996 at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg, Virginia. Born September 9, 1926 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jones. Immediate survivors; four devoted siblings, Mr. Henry O. Jones, Mr. Lula J. Thompson, Mrs. Sarah, J. Stit h, and Mrs. Barbara J. Blake. He was a member of the Western Light Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Light Baptist Church, Bedford, Virginia. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. JORDAN, Merle Wright, 71, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 1996 at her daughters home in Salem. She is survived by one daughter, Bonita Bland, Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Freddie and Connie Jordan, Mechanicsville, Va., Phillip and Melissa Jordan; sisters, Marie Davis, Jean Hall both of Shawsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Ruby Wright, Roanoke, Wilfred and Mary Wright, Christiansburg, W.A., Jr. and Estelle Wright, Shawsville; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. LONG, Hazel Hancock, 74, died Tuesday, August 20, 1996 in Abington, Pennsylvania. The widow of Carl Long, she is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Tomer of Maple Glenn, Pennsylvania, and Dottie Anderson of Lake Worth, Fla; two sons, Jack Long of Lake Worth, Fla, and Carl Long of Jupiter, Fla; four sisters, Annie Freeman, Frances Jones, and Hattie Cregger , all of Nebo, Va., and Jeannette Allen, Lewisburg, West Va; one brother, Isaac ``Bill"" Hancock of Goode, Virginia; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, August 23, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Cemetery, Ceres, Virginia, with Rev. Bill Schoeneman officiating. LYNCH, Jessie Samuel, 73 , of Wirtz, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 20th, 1996. He was born December 4, 1922 the son of the late Charlie E. and Ocie M. Lynch. Mr. Lynch was a member of the Boones Mill Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Holley, Verna Clemons, and Catherine Williams. Surviving are his wife, Shirley M. Lynch, Wirtz; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Louise Lynch, Boones Mill; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Gladys Minnich, Rocky Mount, Alline and Herman Gibson, Roanoke, Dolly and Warren Spangler, Roanoke, Jean and Charlie Pate, Boones Mill; step-sons, Donald Maddy, Rocky Mount, David Maddy, Barnwell, S.C., Dan Maddy, Rock Mount, Dennis Maddy, Boones Mill, Douglas Maddy, Roanoke; 9 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. NINO, Betriz (Betty), age 82 of Blacksburg, formerly of Bogota, Colombia, passed away Monday, August 19, 1996 at her home. She was active in the INternational Community. She is survived by six brothers and sister, Nieves Roman, Efrain Roman, Gonzalo Roman, Aminta de Gomez, Helvia de Garcia, and Alfonzo Roman, all of Bogota, Colombia; six nieces and nephews, Irma and Miguel Langebeck, Blacksburg, Frenando Jose Garcia, Rafeal Edwardo Garcia, Helvia Maria Gomez, Jorge Luis Gomez, and Isabel Victoria Gomez, all of Bogota, Colombia; five-great nieces and nephews, Michael Langebeck, Blacksburg, Karen Langebeck, Durham, NC, Shelby Langebeck, Lynchburg, VA, James Langebeck, Tucson, AZ, and Martin and Mimi Stapleton, Blacksburg; three great-great-nieces and nephews, Cedric, Chloe, and Cecilia Stapleton, all of Blacksburg. OETGEN, Catherine Roan, 86, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 19, 1996. She was born September 23, 1909 in Irvington, N.Y. The daughter of the late William Robert and Mary Elizabeth Roan, she is survived by G. Harry Oetgen, her husband, of 61 years. S he was preceded in death by a son, George R. Oetgen. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald R. and Barbara B. Oetgen, Salem; granddaughter, Lauren C. Oetgen, Columbus, Ohio; grandson and his wife, Brian B. and Kathleen I. ROBINSON, Douglas Matthew, Sr., 82, of Blacksburg, died Monday, August 19, 1996, after a long illness, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. RORRER, Lillian Jane Gregory, 85, of Alum Spring Road, Pulaski, died early Tuesday morning, August 20, 1996 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Carroll County, Va. on October 30, 1910. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Roscoe Rorrer, a son, Robert Michael Rorrer and also by a grandson, Keith Dagenhart. She was the oldest member of the Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church and she regularly attended the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Rorrer enjoyed quilting and crocheting, reading, tending to flowers, singing hymns and she loved her church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Howard B. and Beth Rorrer, Huntersville, N.C.; son, Patrick Rorrer, Christiansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Kelly Dagenhart, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Evelyn and Ben Boyer, Myersville, Md.; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with Elder Ronald Bowman and Elder Joe McGrady officiating. TAYLOR, Jean Thompson 67, of Route 4, Wytheville died Monday August 19, 1996 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was a retired employee from Alco Controls. She is survived by her husband, Norris R. Taylor, Sr., Wytheville; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy a nd Owen Jackson, Wytheville; son and daughter-in-law, N.R. and Dixie Taylor, Max Meadows; brothers, Curtis Thompson and Edward Thompson, both of Wytheville; mother, Hazel M. WRIGHT, Mary Morton, (``Ruby""), of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 20, 1996. She was born on February 25, 1910, to the late Josie and James Morton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman K. Wright; son, Marvin S. Wright, and daughter, Gloria Joyce Wood. She is survived by two sons a nd daughters-in-law, Herman K. and Cathleen Wright of Roanoke, and Donny C. and Joyce Wright of Biloxi, Miss.; daughter, Sunya Cherrie Rogers of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Luwanda C. and Roger Richards of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
