A Roanoke man, driving with his two sons, was killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-car accident in Pulaski County.
Keith Allison, 36, was driving north on U.S. 11 about 3:15 p.m., approximately one mile south of Virginia 747 near the New River Valley Speedway, when the accident occurred, state Trooper E.P. Ellison said.
According to witness accounts, Allison crossed the center line to pass a car and narrowly missed hitting a southbound car driven by Lori Grubb, 20, of Dublin. Grubb avoided Allison's vehicle and hit a rock wall. Allison then collided head-on with another car driven by Kathleen Jones, 26, of Blacksburg, Ellison said.
Allison was not wearing a seat belt, Ellison said.
His 7-year-old son, whom police did not name, was in the front seat and did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt. He was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was undergoing surgery Wednesday night, Ellison said.
The 4-year-old boy, also not identified, was restrained in the back seat. He was taken to Radford Community Hospital, Ellison said.
Grubbs sustained minor injuries and went to Radford Community Hospital on her own, Ellison said. She was not admitted to the hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
Jones also went to Radford Community Hospital and was listed in stable condition, a nursing supervisor said.
The accident is still under investigation.
