NRV 4-H Fair to be held Saturday
CHRISTIANSBURG - The 1996 4-H Fair will be Saturday at New River Valley Mall. The fair is open to local children ages 5-18. Displays will range from interesting bugs to electricity. A bicycle rodeo, illustrated talks and demonstrations are part of the fair. The fair's schedule includes:
9:30-10:30 a.m. - Youth enter all exhibits
10:30-11:30 a.m. - Bicycle rodeo
11 a.m.-1 p.m. - 4-H demonstrations
11 a.m.-3 p.m. - Live animal exhibition.
2-2:45 p.m. - Fashion show.
2:45-4 p.m. - Entertainment/share-the-fun.
4 p.m. - 4-H awards

Volunteers sought for cheerleading, aerobics|
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department is looking for people interested in teaching after school classes at local elementary schools as well as aerobics instructors and volunteers for teaching cheerleading squads. Call 382-6980 if interested.
The department is also recruiting volunteer cheerleading coaches for sandlot football leagues for Riner and Shawsville. Coaches will supervise, practice and train young cheerleaders to cheer at football games. Volunteers should call 382-6975.
Lemley party to be held Sunday
CHRISTIANSBURG - Christiansburg residents are invited to a reception for John Lemley, the town's retiring manager, at the fire station on Depot Street Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Lemley will have been manager 40 years to the day when he steps aside Sept. 1.
During Lemley's tenure Christiansburg has grown from a bucolic county seat to the New River Valley's retail center and a vibrant residential town.

Hunter education offered next week
CHRISTIANSBURG - A hunter education class will be held Aug. 31, from noon to 5 p.m,. and Sept. 1, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., in Courtroom B at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Christiansburg.
The cost is $3.

Hanging Rock Tower to be rebuilt
BLACKSBURG - A contract has been awarded to reconstruct Hanging Rock Tower on the Blacksburg Ranger District of the Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Lewis Home Construction of White Sulphur Springs will build the tower, which was destroyed by fire in 1995. The project is expected to be completed by fall.
District Ranger David Collins said he appreciated the work of volunteers who cleaned up the site and Craig Mohler for organizing and coordinating the effort.
