A former youth league baseball coach pleaded guilty Friday to assaulting a 13-year-old boy.
A judge sentenced Michael E. Robinson to a year in jail, but suspended three months of the sentence.
Police described the assault on the boy, who was not among those Robinson coached, as ``inappropriate touching.''
Robinson, 42, faced a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $2,500 fine for the misdemeanor charge.
Robinson's lawyer, Joe Bolognesi, said his client regrets what happened.
Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Michael Valentine ordered Robinson to serve two years of probation when released, to stay away from anyone under 18 and to undergo mental health counseling.
Valentine also barred Robinson from any contact with the victim's family and barred him from all county recreation centers. He may not coach youth in any capacity, Valentine said.
Robinson, of Springfield, is a convicted pedophile who sexually assaulted two 12-year-old boys in 1984. Police at the time said Robinson touched the boys' ``intimate parts'' in separate incidents.
Robinson was sentenced to 10 years in prison on each count with the terms to run concurrently, but the prison time was suspended and Robinson was placed on 10 years' probation, which expired in 1994.
Parents and co-workers at the Fairfax youth baseball league did not know of Robinson's record.
