ARKAY WORKER RECOVERING AFTER FALL AT PLANT

An employee of Arkay Packaging Corp. in Botetourt County was recovering from broken facial bones and other injuries Friday, a day after being injured in a fall at the plant.

Roger Flippen, 35, was listed in serious condition in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital's intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Flippen is a maintenance supervisor at Arkay, a Hauppauge, N.Y-based company which is gearing up to begin production in a newly completed plant. The plant, in the EastPark Commerce Center, will manufacture packaging for the cosmetics industry.

"We're evaluating why it happened," said Howard Kaneff, chairman of the company. "We think he's going to be all right."
