Fitness businesses consolidating

BLACKSBURG - Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital's Fitness Connection and The Body Shop Aerobics Studio are consolidating into one facility, which will be marked with an open house today from 2 to 5 p.m.

The merged business will be run out of the Fitness Connection's building, at 1101 N. Main St. The merger means aerobics and fitness classes will be expanded to offer a wider variety of programming and combination of classes, including a seniors low-impact light class and funk aerobics.

The Fitness Connection is a full-service wellness and fitness center. Racquetball, nautilus, free weight and cardiovascular equipment, aerobics and fitness classes are available.

Health/safety service moves to hospital

CHRISTIANSBURG - Columbia Occupational Health & Safety Services has moved from its clinic location to Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital. The new facility will provide health, wellness and safety services for businesses of all sizes. Services include drug and alcohol testing, physical examinations, medical surveillance, audiometric testing, workers compensation, on-site nursing programs, vaccinations, safety assessments, safety program development, CPR and first-aid training and safety training.

Human resource certification

BLUEFIELD - Bluefield College's Division of Adult and Continuing Education is offering an 11-week human resource certification course. The class will be taught in Bluefield, Roanoke and the New River Valley. The cost is $725 ($695 for individuals who are members of the Society for Human Management).

The course prepares students for the Human Resources Certification Institute exam. It covers management practices, selection and placement, training and development, compensations and benefits, employee and labor relations, and health, safety and security conditions.

Clinic offers extended hours

CHRISTIANSBURG - Tuck Chiropractic Clinic now offers extended hours. The clinic will be open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon for both new and regular patient treatment and care.

Weekday office hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

New clothing store at mall

CHRISTIANSBURG - B. Moss is the newest addition to the New River Valley Mall. The women's clothing store opened Aug. 22.

B. Moss was established in 1939 and has more than 60 stores nationwide. The New River Valley Mall store is one of 10 new stores it is opening this year.

IBT hires Hedrick

BLACKSBURG - Internet Business Technologies recently hired Connie J. Hedrick as executive vice president and chief operating officer. IBT is a Blacksburg-based World Wide Web home page design company.

Hedrick recently worked on the management team of Raines Real Estate, Inc./Better Homes and Gardens. She was with the company for 11 years. She has lived in Blacksburg since 1985.

At IBT, Hedrick will help develop and maintain the vision of the company. She also will manage all departments, including marketing, sales, research and development, as well as all contract programmers and staff personnel.

Hedrick is a past board member of the Montgomery County Community Shelter, Mount Tabor Day Care Center and Kids on Track.

FNB promotes Hardy

CHRISTIANSBURG - Julian D. "Danny" Hardy Jr. recently was promoted to chief executive officer at First National Bank. Hardy joined FNB in 1984 as executive vice president and chief administrative officer. During his tenure with FNB, he has headed the administration of the bank as well as served on the board of directors.

A native of Blackstone, Hardy has a bachelor's degree from Hampden-Sydney College. He also is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.

Hardy recently was named president of the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance and serves on the board of the MBC Development Corp. In addition, he is a member of the American Bankers Association Peer Group; the Blacksburg Noon Rotary Club; and the Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Radford chambers of commerce.

He lives in Blacksburg with his wife, Ann, and their two sons.

Marketing seminar

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce will have a special seminar called "How to Use the Power of Marketing to Increase Sales and Profits" on Sept. 10. Dan Andrews will be the seminar speaker. He will show participants how to use a real-life, market-driven approach to selling products and services and how to link customer service to marketing strategies.

The seminar costs $49 for chamber members and $69 for others. The seminar will be from 11:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include lunch. Deadline to purchase tickets is Sept. 2. For information, call 552-4061.
